OK, I have a lot of /mp3 files I used as ringtones on other phones. How can I add them to my new iPhone? Do I have to convert them? Thanks! My search only brought on how to make custom tones.

In itunes you can right click any song and then select "Create Ringtone" you then get to choose how much of the song plays as your ringtone

However, this method costs $1 and can only be used on songs bought from iTunes, which does not help the OP since he said he has the .mp3s from use on other phones.

Thanks. I am still hunting.

You shouldn't have any problem with www.Audiko.net . It's completely free, and you just upload your .mp3, choose what part you want to make into a ringtone (or if was already a ringtone, you won't have to do anything with it), then let it do it's work and save it to your computer, then put it into iTunes.

I used an app called iRinger. Worked great! Any idea how to get custom sounds in the text message section?

If you are on a Mac and have Garageband you can create them from mp3s and send them to iTunes.

I have been doing this for awhile now for free ringtones of just the portion of the song that I want.
