Has anyone else had an airport express go dead like this? Did you manage to get a replacement from Apple. I'm going to call them when I get home tonight and see what they say.
Not sure if it's the same in the States, but here in France some of the Internet service providers are able to block/scramble your access to their servers.
People told me about this before I ordered AirPort Express, so I checked with the online Apple Store and told them who I had (a provider called Noos). They said it works fine with Noos. Then I called Noos and asked two different people if they can do anything to prevent me from using this type or product. They said no. Liars.
After months of losing a lot of time and money trying to figure out why my AirPort Extreme hub suddenly goes dead and doesn't work no matter what I try, I took it to one of Apple's certified after-sales places and they confirmed to me that lots of people that use Noos have this same problem. They explaine dto me that if Noos recognizes I'm accessing the same IP address twice at the same time, they can block my signal. How on earth they can technically do this, I have no idea. But they've confirmed this.
So who's responsible to warn you about this when you pay for a 200 product? Apple or the service provider? I complained to the after-sales service people at the online Apple Store and they agreed to reimburse me. I think this was fair of them. I'm more pissed off with Noos, but I can't prove that they're blocking my signal. I can, however, prove that Apple misled me when I purchased the product.
As much as I hate to do it, I'm simply going to use Noos' Wi-Fi router, which only costs 5 a month. And now if it goes dead, at least it's their responsibility to send someone to my house to get it working again.
