For those don't know he was a professional wrestler.

Yes I know it's fake but I grew up on this stuff, tough to see one of the best go.

I just read this on a blog...

Apparantly he left work on Saturday because he got a call saying his wife and son were ill and they didn't know the cause. he made it home, and they all died overnight from a gas leak in the home.

horrible.

glad mcmahon opened the show the way he did.

ya ive grown up on it.. (and have seen him almost everytime WWE has come to fresno since 1997)
its sure sad.. but i havent been able to find anymore info on it.. but the gas leak seems like a probable reason...
he will be missed :(

Carbon Monoxide perhaps?

That's what I thought- it was a new house after all.

I was flicking through the channels and stopped at wrestling- haven't watched in over a year. I got excited to see a Benoit match on (my all time favorite wrestler, I always enjoyed the sport side of it, not the drama acting side that it is today). My excitement quickly turned to sadness when I realized what had happened.

I can honestly say that he is the greatest I have ever seen. His matched with Jericho, Eddie, Malenko, and Kurt Angle were absolute top notch. He will surely be missed.

From WWE.com

According to lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, in Fayetteville, Ga., the deaths of WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, wife Nancy and son Daniel were the result of a double murder-suicide, WWE.com has learned.

Benoit failed to appear both at Saturday’s live event in Beaumont, Tx., and WWE’s Vengeance: Night of Champions in Houston Sunday night, after informing WWE of a family emergency. Several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning prompted concerned friends to alert Richard Hering, VP of Government Relations for WWE, Inc. Hering, in turn, spoke with Fayette County sheriffs Monday, and requested that they respond to the Benoit residence to check on him and his family.

Authorities representing the Sheriff’s Department initially had a difficult time entering Benoit’s new Fayetteville home Monday afternoon, which had been guarded by two large German Shepherds roaming freely around the property. Once authorities entered the residence, they quickly located the bodies of Benoit, Nancy and Daniel. WWE was notified of the discovery at approximately 4 p.m.

At 10 p.m. Monday night, Lt. Pope held a press conference in conjunction with Scott Ballard, the district attorney for Fayette County. The press conference officially ruled authorities’ findings as a double murder-suicide from within the home.

WAGA, a FOX-owned and operated television station in Atlanta, reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son over the weekend, then himself on Monday.

The three bodies have been received by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab, in Decatur, Ga., where autopsies will be performed Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports will not become available for at least two weeks.

WWE.com has further information relating to both the investigation and the cause of death, but the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department has requested that WWE.com not release any additional details at this time.
Pretty crazy. I stopped watching wrestling a few years ago, but I remember Benoit was consistently entertaining. Crazy if what investigators believe is true :/

this is creepy. if you read WWE.com right now, you'll see that soon after Benoit was found dead, they aired a 3 hour long show about his career. now it turns out the man flipped and did the killing...

It gets worse...

Fayetteville, Georgia District Attorney Scott Ballard was interviewed by ESPN.com as part of a feature article on the Chris Benoit murder-suicide case. Ballard told the website that the text messages that have been mentioned previously as sent by Benoit (believed to be sent to WWE star Chavo Guerrero, who had just spent time with the family) stated that Nancy and Daniel Benoit were sick (believed to be sent after they were murdered) and a second noting the doors were open and the dogs were outside. Ballard believed the second message may have been an attempt by Benoit to make sure the bodies were discovered after his suicide.

More shocking was Ballard's revelation that The Benoit's son Daniel was found with needle marks in his arms. ESPN wrote, "The district attorney said he believed that the boy had been given growth hormones for some time because the family considered him undersized." HGH can be prescribed for children deemed hormone deficient.

Bob Ryder from 1wrestling.com is reporting that sources close to Nancy Benoit say she had a safety deposit box with evidence of past rages from Chris Benoit, and if anythng were to happen to her, police should check the box. Ryder also reports that about a year ago Chris became paranoid and thought that he was always being followed and would not let Nancy leave the house. In addition, some friends close to Chris say that he hated religion while others say he recently became religious.

1Wrestling.com has learned through several sources that one of the text messages sent by Chris Benoit early Sunday morning said "back door open, dogs have been fed".
