Can you rip dvds on your mac with surround sound? And if so, will the ATV support it?

How to backup/copy/rip video DVDs to your HDD and transcode them to another format.

In Handbrake use the "Apple TV" preset to preserve the 5.1 sound, and the current Apple TV is able to play 5.1 sound, according to Apple.
