So all the others have 2.5" drives except for the ones that spin at 7200 rpm? Doesn't make sense to me.

Serously I can't understand how you could get offended by my reply but surely it wasn't my intention. If you got offended because you didn't feel yourself part of that "professional" that I'm referring at the end of the post let me point out that it was just a joke 🙂

I used just a piece of rectangular plasic (2mm thick) - cut it in two, glued with melted glue stick - in this way, the remaining space between the 2 plastic blades was just perfect.

Wrong again. Regardless of the RPM, the 21.5” iMac use 2.5” drives and 27” – 3.5”. Regardless of that making sense to you. Correct me if *I* am wrong.

Good idea about the sim card, need to bear that in mind for later this year when I will try to venture opening, at the moment I am short in cash and hope that by christmas the price of the SSDs will go down a little..

At the end I got this $6 OCZ bracket for a stylistic reason (I prefer the black color instead the OWC blue 😛)

BUT I just realized that from the picture of my bracket I can see 4 holes at the bottom when in yours I see just 2 of them.

I'm just being too picky or are they different? Do you know if the OCZ is compatible as well with the Imac 27"?

No, there are four holes in the OWC one, in that picture two holes are hidden just behind the front side. These four holes in the bottom are perfectly spaced so the 2.5" can screw into them.

Really you have some issue with me huh to quote so many posts. I said I may be wrong, I knew the 21" had a 2.5" drive, and I had assumed, but said I may be wrong, that the 27" had a 2.5" also. So what is the big deal if I am wrong, I fully said I COULD BE WRONG.

No, it had nothing with me being wrong, it was his smart comment against someone who was trying to be nice that offended me. He could have simply said that the 27" used a different HDD size from the 21", done.

You made the list big time. I do not get why you feel you need to stick up for him, are you his mom? Really, go away or add something of value to this thread, all you are doing is trying to start an argument. Grow up.

Wow, that's impressive !!!!!

Yesterday I ordered an Apple 256GB Blade SSD (of eBay) and an Envoy enclosure for the old 128GB Blade.

Thinking of also running a SoftRAID setup, but just testing if it makes any difference in the real world.

So, I made a SoftRAID-0 from a 256GB partition on the internal Samsung 840Pro and 256GB Samsung 840 Pro that is in de LaCie Thunderbolt enclosure.

Guess what, already impressive, especially considering it is partly on an external SSD. Looks like it's just missing around 100MB/s compared to "happyhacking"-s (all-internal) RAID setup.

At this moment only running my Aperture library form this RAID partition, it is lightning quick.

Can't wait to give it a try with the internal 256GB Apple Blade SSD.

Also a set of VHB strips (of eBay) so I can finally put my iMac back together. It's been sitting here with a small strip of black tape around the top. Worked perfectly, hardly noticable but better to get it closed officially after I'm done modifying.

256GB Apple blade SSD fitted today.

The Mac is running great.

I have increased the number of TimeMachine backups from 1 to 3 times a day, just wondering how stable SoftRAID really is.

Hi all

I was planning to replace my 1tb drive with a Samsung 830 128gb SSD and raid0 that with the internal 138gbssd blade. I thought this was the best approach as the internal SSD was based on the samsung 830, however I now see many of you guys using the 840. Pro to raid o. Will this give more speed or will the SSD blade be the limiting factor as its based on the Samsung 830 ? I hope my question makes sense

Do I need to activate TRIM?

Ps: I Set the RAID Block Size at 64k, I use it mainly for video editing, is it a good pick or do I have to increase it? Thanks.

TRIM is not an available option in a SSD RAID setup...garbage collection will do its job though.

If you raid the 128gb ssd blade with the 840 pro will be a waste since the raid will be limited to the slower drive.

Get the 830 its a good drive and you will never notice the difference on real life

Could you please clear some doubts for me?
1. The 27” i7 3.4GHz with 1TB drive – does it have both blade and HDD SATA connectors? Or did you have to order a fusion drive for that?
2. What was a total cost of your project (excluding your labor)?
3. Would you recommend a less technical person to “just settle” on a 768GB SSD option for $900?

Firstly, i'm sorry for my bad english but i'm french!
I would like to know something about the base imac 21.5 inch late 2012 wich cost 1299$.
This imac is equiped with a sata hdd 2.5.
I would like to know if it's possible to remove this hdd and to install a ssd instead.
For example i'm thinking about the ssd samsung 840.
What i will need to do it myself and what about the performance.
Thanks a lot for your help.

For the late 2012 iMac 21.5" any sata 2.5" HDD/SSD can be used to replace the existing hard drive. Once you get access into your iMac its a simple unplug cable to existing hard drive, remove and replace with new, plug cables back in.
