Replace iMac stand for the VESA mount

I purchased the new 27" iMac as soon as it came out. Now, I'd like to wall mount it and I see that Apple is now selling a VESA compatible iMac. I don't want to sell my iMac and buy another one with the VESA adapter. I read all posts on this thread and it looks like I might be able to swap the stand for the VESA mount. Can anyone confirm on that? And does anyone know the VESA mount part number and where I might be able to order from?

Again, it has been stated multiple times in this thread that OWC blade SSDs do not work in 2012 iMacs.

Hello

I just replaced the SSD into the iMac and when i boot there is a folder in the middle of the screen with "?" on it
 
Seems there ist no System. I had the same problem as I removed SSD with OS on it. You need to install the Mac OSX or Connect the original Drive vor Example on USB 3.0

I solved the Problem when i connected my Old SSD on thunderbolt Port and cloned it with Carbon copy

No need to open iMac again. Just put old HDD into USB case and connect to iMac. It should boot from USB drive. Than download "carbon copy cloner" and make clone system from old HDD to SSD. That is what I did for my iMac.
 
Whether your Internet connection is slow or your iMac connected to slow Apple server 🙂
I installed iMac on my 250kbit DSL connection thru the night. So I found a solution, downloaded ML.app at my cousins place and created bootable 8gb USB stick. Now I can install ML without Internet connection and it takes approx 15-20 minutes on USB 2.0.

One more question. If I remove the LCD in order to do any modification in the iMac, when I reassembly the LCD must I replace the adhesive tape or not? If yes which one must I buy in order to be identical to the original tape?

This one from eBay is the same color etc with the original? The adhesive tape from the video is white and the original is black. I' asking because in case i need somewhen to send the iMac for repair maybe they reject the warranty, and I also have AppleCare... I want the warranty and I also want to replace the HDD with and SSD on an iMac 27... Nothing difficult..,

When you stick it, you have to remove this white band after installating it.

On 21,5, it's not difficult, dunno on 27, i think you have to buy a support 3,5" for your SSD.
 
I applaud those willing to take on a task like but personally don't see the point in replacing the HDD on any new iMac while under warranty. I'd wait 12 months when prices are bound to be lower.

I might consider something like this in 3 years when my Apple Care is over.

My iMac has the 1TB HDD and it's really slow for the job I want. I need a 256GB SSD drive and propably I can't wait 3 years until the warranty expires. I was between iMac and hackintosh an I chose to buy an iMac because I would make this modification. The SSD installation is really easy and if you do it carefully you don't even lose your warranty because they won't understand that you opened the iMac. Of course in order to sent it for service , you need to put back the stock HDD the iMac had.

Yes, I understood that, but as I can see on the video, not only the band is white, but also the actual adhesive tape. The original is black. The tape from the eBay is the one from the video or not? Have you buy it and saw for yourself that is exactly the same with the original?
Yes I know that I must buy a 3,5 adapter in order to install the SSD. I already have one...
 
I just registered in order to thank you guys a bunch for getting this thread going, and especially Zuri for his teardown video!

I literally got it done in 15 mins, with just some basic PC building experience, and I now get the expected 490/520 speeds with a 256gb 840 pro.

Some notes for those still on the fence:

- Using a guitar pick I got very good feedback from the feel of the cut. You really feel when the adhesive strips loosen and you just need to take it a little bit easy around the webcam, no problems here.

- I didn't loosen the bottom tape. Reason being I thought I got enough room to work without pulling the screen connectors. I just held the screen gently in one hand while undoing the speaker screws and hard drive with the other. This is in no way a recommendation, but if anyone was wondering, you can do it this way.

- Clean boot with no issues from the get go after connecting the ssd with a usb adapter and cloning the original hdd using Super Duper.

Now Ill just need the tape strips to arrive from ebay so I wont have to have two clams at the top of my screen 🙂 And btw, I am positive if you go easy with your screwdriver and wash your hands before touching the inside, you can get in and out unnoticed in case you would need to use the warranty. You will need to put the original hdd back in of course, but it really is a 15 min process once you know how to do it.

Ripped open my iMac.

I got a refurbished 27" 3.4 with 1TB fusion and 680MX. I maxed out the ram myself, and after turning on to make sure it booted, etc, I took the screen off and added a Samsung 840 instead of the 1TB physical drive. I disabled the Fusion through terminal to use the 128 Blade SSD as my boot drive.

Put the screen back on, turn on, everything works great.

I add my Thunderbolt display to the thunderbolt port, it works great.

I plug my WD Thunderbolt Duo 6TB drive into the iMacs other TB port and nothing. It doesnt even light up. I plug it into the Thunderbolt displays port and it works perfectly, at the end of the daisy chain.

I tried plugging the TB drive into to the port on my iMac that successfully accepted the thunderbolt display > Thunderbolt drive chain, and it did not work.

Very confused, not sure why the TB port on my imac will accept the drive at only when at the end of a chain?

Anyone encounter this before?
