Ripit on MacBook Air?

Using Ripit, can I rip a DVD from a network drive or can I only do it from a hardwired Mac Super Drive?
 
Apple says no, because Remote Disc won't work with copyrighted media.

I haven't tried it myself though, so I can't confirm that.
