    hi
i've just spent the past few hours ripping the wire boxset. i used mac the ripper 2.66. i used the title chapter feature to rip individual episodes. ive ended up with single .vob files all around 450 -500 mb but they only play for around 10 minutes. they dont crash or anything but they actually end at 7-10 minutes. help please . thanks in advance

I suggest ripping the complete disc instead of doing the individual episodes. When you open the rip in handbrake you can select the individual episodes to convert to apple tv playable files.

thanks for the reply . but i dont want to / need to use handbrake. all my rips go to a 4TB nas so storage isnt an issue thus eliminating the need for compression plus i dont want to lose ANY quality. im playing through plex so dont really have any need for apple tv compatability.

I would still use the suggestion to RIP the whole disc to your computer. Then use something like DETOX (DVD2ONEX) to strip out the individual episodes.

The way some DVD's are authored or protected it is not always possible to take the most straight forward path. You can adjust the settings in DETOX so there is no compression so you will not lose anything.

All of that being said have you tried HB on a few DVD's with the correct settings the quality is very good. And even with 4TB of space (i have the same) you will be surprised how fast that fills up.

Excuse me for being a noob on this, but I've done this, and now I have a whole bunch of individual episodes of "How I met your mother".

Is there a way to group these in itunes so I don't have so many individual files.

Maybe something that will allow me to pick a folder called "How I met your mother" and then chose the episode I'd like to watch?

I use the smart playlist in iTunes to help with TV shows and you can create folders in Ituens but those folders do not carry through to the ATV

I run the files through the program iFlicks to get all the metadata. This way when I import them into iTunes they go into the TV Shows listing and are separated by season. It's not quite like having a folder system but it is a lot better then having all the episodes just thrown into the Movies category along with everything else.

iFlicks is a OS X commercial app but there are others that are free and do this too. The only other one I have used is MetaX but I know that there are others.
