Here’s the issue Rivian is ignoring.
I have a 2018 Tesla Model 3. The car still performs great. However - the apps in the infotainment system are another story.
All of them - YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, SiriusXM, Apple Music, Podcasts, Audible…
Most of them absolutely suck - UI, performance, features... SiriusXM even demands a separate subscription. They never get updates and are running on 8+ year old chip. Apple Music isn’t TOO bad but doesn’t get new features. YouTube is DREADFULLY slow.
With CarPlay, drivers have more apps to choose from and get all the updates and (usually) refresh the hardware periodically.
Tesla said they’d never do CarPlay/Android Auto and now some are finding clues in the code that indicate otherwise in addition to leaks that say Tesla is working on it. (At least in CarPlay)
