I haven't had time to swing by, does the Apple Store stock 16GB rMBP models, or is it something I would have to get online?

Select stores now offer the "ultimate model". 2.7 16gb 768gb

Really? Do you know of any particular stores that have actually received this model? I've called all stores in the MD/VA/DC area, and not a single one has claimed to have in stock (or have even received) the ultimate model.

Same here. All NY metro stores that I called said it's by order only. They haven't received any of them.

Apple stores used to be able to do upgrades like RAM and HDD on new computers...

Yes, but don't forget the new MBP doesn't support ram swaps. At least not in a easy manner. So they could be right. Unless the store itself ordered the top model, they may not get it.

good point, i hadn't thought of that.

Yeah, the Houston Galleria store (largest customer volume in my area) carries this very expensive "ultimate" model... Which left me stuck with a very tough decision of waiting 3-4 week for a BTO to save 750 dollars on options I don't want. :(

I had confirmation from the Basigstoke apple store the only 16gb model they will be stocking will be the 'Beast' 768gb rMBP.
