Hi,

Does rMBP late 2013 support 5.1 sound via optical out?

Is there any benefits if I use external USB sound card?

Speakers I am planing to connect are Logitech Z906.

should be fine, can depends of source of sound like DVD, BR, MP3 etc.

176.4 and 192 are sampling rates and does not mean the MacBook can output 5.1 audio over optical.

No need for an external sound card if the MacBook will pass 5.1 audio over optical.
