I've had mine reserved since last Thursday. I've been calling every morning since because it seems like each employee has no idea when they will receive a shipment. I called today and they said,"just wait for the email." Who knows when I'll get one! Anticipation is killing me!

This is still ridiculous. I called the best buy online. and told them what how some people were able to get pre-orders and this not even the corporate number has the power to do this. They put me on hold and told me they even tried to do some back door technique but they keep getting denied.

This is unreal.

I called to ask about availability, it was the rep I was speaking to that suggested I do it.

Just use the SKU, don't say its for the Retina MacBook. This whole thing seems to be confusing a lot of people at Best Buy and Apple...

The imporant thing here is that I have no idea when they'll be getting them :/

I went into the east end Ottawa, ON store yesterday afternoon to ask about availability.

First response was it's a couple weeks away from showing up, was told to try again "when they make it into stores". When told that BB had already received them, as well as Apple stores, much frenzied discussion between staff ensued...

Finally a guy checked the computer, said nothing right now, but told me which days trucks come in (Mon, Wed, and Fri) and said that they get unloaded during the afternoon and the stock gets put out after closing. He offered to see where they were at with the current truck, which he figured had just arrived, but came back empty handed.

I went to take a leak, and when walking back out towards the doors, randomly ran into the same guy who said that he just found out that they actually had some in stock in the back, but not on display. When I said I would buy one and test it out since they didn't have any display models he said ok. I asked him to bring me the best spec one he had, he came out a minute later with a 2.6 and said it was the only one in the store.....funny how life works sometimes.....

I'm posting on it right now and I think I like it.

Been told that these are not getting to the stores via Best Buy warehouse but by direct ship from Apple. So the stores really have no idea when they will arrive in any week.

Called bestbuy.com and the lady told me that all the stores in my florida area are at "preorder limit" which she said was 10

Even my melbourne store which told me they dont do a waiting list or preorder...

Any thoughts on this?

Not to rain on the pre-order parade but how do all the people who are pre-ordering know that they are actually going to get the units as they come in?

I would bet that you will only get your pre-orders once the number of units the store has in stock has built up to a large quantity and it is entered into the Best Buy computer system.

As it is right now, at the different stores I've visited in the past few days, they are unable to order it online, arrange for in-store pickup, or even track incoming shipments. So the pre-order is probably worthless.

What I guess is the more likely scenario is that a couple units come in at a time, people keep calling Best Buy, and an employee sees the new units and doesn't even bother to check if there's a pre-order in place matching that. Tells the person over the phone to come on in and purchase it. Or if someone walks in and is persistent in having an employee check if there's any in stock -- that unit becomes his.

Maybe I'm wrong but from what I've observed at a few local Best Buy stores, that would be my guess on how this is going to go down.

I went to my local Best Buy here in Ontario because it showed as available on their website. Only 2 locations were showing them in stock so I was excited that one was close to me. No one had any idea what i was talking about. There were none on display. The one guy tried to tell me the display was the new one. I explained it wasn't as it have an optical drive. Had him look in back with the SKU from the website and nothing. He said the next shipment would be Wed with it put on on Thurs. I asked about the education discount and he said they would match it.

So I too, actually just got my preorder in at BestBuy.

If they tell you they arent doing preorders, its a lie. Or they are an idiot and dont know what they are talking about.

Tell the bestbuy employee they need to make the pre order through their "beast" system.

I had to go instore to do it and find someone nice and willing to help.

If you dont have a preorder, dont expect to walk in and get one. When they come in, they are first scanned to see if their is a hold/preorder on the item. If there are preorders, they wont even hit the floor.

Sure enough.. I went to my best buy and talked to the apple guy.. he recognized me and the fact that I had purchased a 256GB model.. he directed me to another employee and they set up an in-store pick up reserve for me for the 512GB model..

They'll notify me when it arrives. I didn't have to pay anything or buy a gift card.. I'm assuming this is only because I already bought a notebook from them and simply want to exchange it for the higher-end model.
