Damn, was hoping something would have popped up by now...

Truly. I am up to my neck at work, otherwise I'd investigate the complexities of writing my own code to achieve this.

That said, I presume it's really, really not easy, and I am by no means a programmer, just a stubborn accountant who improves on processes at work by writing VBA macros (not making macros with that silly recorder thing, but writing VBA code) to turn several day's work into the presses of a few buttons.

I know, I am working on my own extinction... ;)
 
Sorry, could you elaborate? rEFIt in combination with Mountain Lion caused problems with Photoshop? :confused:

was causing hangs and photoshop wouldnt even open at times. photomerge wouldnt open. After i uninstalled refit it all worked fine again not quite sure why but it did. also refit was causing the system to have some strange behaviour during bootup and sleep.
 
Now that rEFInd 0.4.5 is out, it can be used to show both OS X and the Windows 7 installation on BOOTCAMP every time you boot without having to hold down the Option/Alt key at boot.

The installation and configuration of this is sickeningly complex and difficult though. With much gnashing of teeth and tearing or hair, I finally succeeded, so here goes for anyone who is likewise face with trying to set up a simple configuration as follows:

1. Install the latest rEFInd package here (Currently 0.4.5):
https://sourceforge.net/projects/refind/files/
Then you want to extract the file.

2. Next you want to run the install.sh script from a terminal windows as follows:

Get to the extracted folder in the terminal using 'cd' command and the filepath.

Then type in:
sudo ./install.sh
Enter your password to make it happen. You will be informed of successful installation immediately.

3. Now you need to edit the refind.conf file mentioned at the end of the installation process as part of the response.

You need to open an instance of TextEdit or something similar in way that allows you to write to locked files. The only way I could find was to type the following into your terminal window:

sudo -b "/Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit"
Enter your password again.

TextEdit will now open. To find the refind.conf file in ///EFI/refind/ you are best of typing into the top-right hand side search box "EFI"
This will show the EFI folder's contents at the top of the list of results, and click on "refind.conf"

This opens your refind.conf file. Here you can read through the not very helpful explanations and try to figure out what you want, or you can just get the basic two OS boot option to show every time the computer boots up with this conf file (feel through to compare to your unedited .conf file to see the differences)

That's it! This should in theory also be able to detect any bootable USB drives, bootable CD images, etc. as I maxed out the scanfor line with:
