2.6GHz and I don't see this either. I did see some jerkiness with 10.8.0 when switching using CTRL→ and CTRL← or swipe gestures (but never using CTRL+numbers or when using mission control+gestures where counterintuitively there is more to composite and animate). That was fixed by 10.8.2.

For some people it seemed to depend (at the time of 10.7.x / 10.8.0) on whether the dock was hidden, or on what is displayed in the target space, has the OP tried these?

I played around with an rMPB at an Apple Store over the weekend. It was definitely smoother than my first experience (which I posted a video of-- it was pretty stuttery). Software updates can fix a lot.
 
Equally this issue only effecting 2.6`s makes no sense, with Intel`s "binning" process a 2.3 may actually be a 2.6 just clocked down to meet demand, unless the architecture of the Logic Board is different which i doubt.
