Would it be possible to upgrade a 15" RMBP with 8GB to 16GB of memory?

Just to confirm that as well the only time you can upgrade the ram is at time of purchase so that's why I have gone for the stock 2.3 with 16gb of RAM at checkout.

What you mean is that the ram is fixed on the motherboard and can not be replaced at all? Which means that if I buy the 8GB version I'm stuck with 8GB with no upgrade option in the future? Well, if that's so, it's too bad and was not so in the past with former MBP versions.

That's correct. The RAM is soldered to the logic board and cannot be upgraded after purchase.

Former MBP versions didn't have the new design of the MBP-R. That's one of the many changes that were made to make the new model slimmer.
