Hello everyone, I'm experiencing problem on my RMBP Mid-2014 External Display.

The display is LG27MP55, connection is HDMI to HDMI.
I'm attaching the picture of problem and example below.

http://prntscr.com/hs9fn9

Things I tried so far :

- Font smoothing commands in Terminal (defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 1-2-3-4 etc)
- “Use LCD font smoothing when available” both options.
- Forcing RGB colors using ruby patch
- A dozen of other tutorials from youtube/apple community forums etc
- Tried mDP (MBP) to HDMI (monitor) cable.
- All kind of options on my monitor (sharpen 1-5, AV/TV etc etc, everything possible )

This monitor worked with my PC on Windows 7 brilliantly, the quality was awesome, but on my rMBP it works like its not rendering fonts properly without anti aliasing them. it is really driving me nuts.

I tried closing my laptop in clamshell mode, extended display, mirroring etc, like everything, still the same.
I even tried reinstalling system.

Every help is more than welcome!View attachment 743687

OP:

The display you're using -- is its "native resolution" (the best possible) 1920x1080?
If so, that's 1080p -- NOT "retina-quality" as on the rMBPro.

What this means in practical terms is that the overall quality and sharpness of the display probably isn't going to match that of the MacBook, particularly if you have good vision. There's going to be some discrepancy between them.

The display has ONLY HDMI and VGA connections, is that right?

As a last resort, you might try a "minidisplayport to VGA" adapter. It just might work.

If that doesn't work, perhaps it's time to start shopping for a replacement.
I'd suggest something with a displayport input.

But again, I don't think ANY 1080p display is going to give you an image that is as pleasing as that of the retina MacBook Pro (or iMac).

Thanks for reply!
Yes, it is its native resolution 1920x1080. And yes, it is 1080p
The display has only HDMI and VGa, you're right.

I don't expect it to be as pleasing as retina, but atleast fonts should be readable, without being aliased etc? or im wrong, im sorry im really not familiar with external displays nor macbooks.

Anyway, I'll try minidisplayport to VGA, but I already tried mDP to HDMI, isn't it the same quality?

Thanks again for reply!

Forget about the BGA adapter, forcing a FHD resolution signal through an analog VGA cable is going to result in a very mushy and blurry image. VGA is pretty much useless for anything higher than 1280x1024.

I think Fishrrman is right: the problem is that you're comparing a Retina HiDPI display to a 27" FullHD display.
In other words (or rather numbers): 220/227 ppi (15"/13" MBPr) vs. 82 ppi (27" FHD display). There is absolutely no way the external display will come even close to the Retina HiDPI quality of your MacBook Pro's display.

Thanks for reply, so this quality is expected and usual on fullhd external display?

This is all strange because I know a few people doing same job as me (web design) and they are using even worst external monitors connected to their rMBP and dont have this kind of fonts disort etc.

It's no going to be as clear (it is half the resolution in each direction after all) but it definitely should look better than that

"I don't know what to do..."

I'd be looking for another display, one with a displayport input...

Okay thanks, I will test on my friend's Full HD Samsung, because I Still cant believe a full hd quality monitor cant work on rMBP, and if it is the same, I'll buy UHD monitor.
