It's definitely a busy page...but I use Click4Flash with Safari and on my 2011, early 2.2/8GB 17" MBP...I'm experiencing the same as the folks with the rMBPs. Only in Safari. Seems decent in Chrome...even 'zoomed' in via the trackpad. Obviously...the fluency of zooming with the TP in Chrome is now where near as beautiful as in Safari...is that related to this issue?

That's a Crazy page though...I think Where is it and font9a are correct. The blame lies with Techcrunch...that's an incredibly 'dynamic' page you linked. LOL...I surf quite a bit and I've never seen that!!! Fortunately this isn't commonplace for you rMBP owners, is it? I've been seriously considering one myself...possibly around the holidays.

One question though...why does it run so much better on Chrome than Safari? Why doesn't Safari call for the AMD or nVidia GPU when it's burdened with a page this cumbersome? I use gfxCardStatus...and turned my 6750 on, went to the page and I still get the same 'jerkiness' as using the integrated card. Doesn't seem to change anything.

There is something to be said though for simplicity in design:) ...especially when it comes to a site or blog or review...meant for 'Reading!'. Less distraction and clutter seems to be common sense. Guess Not!

OP - I see what you mean. I've not found any lag problems on any websites when scrolling sites at the regular zoom level, but when I pinch to zoom in and try to scroll on some sites it becomes very unresponsive.

Same problem as OP

1) On Safari, the more you zoom, the choppier it gets!!

2) On Safari, occasionally, pages load VERY slow almost as if my internet is down!!

Specs:

2.7 / 768 / 16

OS : ML

OK, I've been reading the lag complaints on this forum over the last few weeks, and never really experienced any lag that was enough to bug me in the least... until today. The irony? It was a positive review of Mountain Lion linked to on Apples own website... Safari's default home page.

Open this link in Safari, scroll up and down: http://techcrunch.com/2012/07/25/os-x-mountain-lion-review/

Ok, a little rough? Now pinch zoom the page a bit, and try it. It just about freezes. Now look at Safari's cpu usage. 70 - 80 percent just sitting on the page!

I tried the page in chrome beta, works just fine.

Ah the irony! Its the universe talking to you...

After more than a month of using the rmbp I found out that the lag only exist in OSX when it comes to browsing and other desktop use. Windows 7 is very smooth.

It took you a month to realize this? Windows 7 isn't retina compatible and is only rendered "normally". Of course it's going to be smoother since it takes a lot more horsepower to run retina-enabled OSX.

some people take a month. relax, were all friends here

That link from the OP in Safari is VERY laggy on my rMBP 2.3/16/256 after zooming in however in the latest version of Chrome which now supports the retina display its fine. So its certainly a software problem with Safari.

I do like Safari but I prefer Chrome overall. Chrome isn't as smooth in terms of the smooth scrolling and zooming in compared to Safari but it doesn't get bogged down like Safari does.
