rMBP no brightness control?

Guys,

someone tell me why on earth I do not have a brightness slider on my new rMBP? Pressing the brightness buttons on the keyboard (F1/F2) doesn't do anything, and there is no slider in the Displays prefpane.

EDIT: nevermind, a reboot seems to have fixed this.. Weird..
