Looks similar to the display connection defects other people have reported.

If I had to take a wild creative guess, I'd imagine the person assembling the hinge (where the display connectors and wireless antennas are) wasn't very careful. Doubt it's a logic board problem.

You should just get a replacement instead of playing the Genius Bar games.

I found that the store was very accommodating, and having a video clip that I shot with my phone that illustrated the problem was a big help - it was no trouble at all getting it replaced.

I also bookmarked this thread to show them, as well as the youtube video at the top of the thread.

Did they ask you about the frequency of the problem? I'm just worried as the flickering on mine only occurs every now and then and I'm pretty sure it won't happen when I'm in the store, the only time I want it to haha.

Although I recorded a video with my phone yesterday with the screen flickering which Ill show them. What did they say they're going to do to your macbook?

On my machine it happened quite frequently when my battery was a bit low, and when the machine had been in sleep mode for a while. Toggling the WiFi on/off showed the problem.

I showed the genius bar guy the iPhone video and they offered to replace the screen immediately, with no hassle at all.

Showed them the system on Saturday, they ordered the parts, I dropped off at an Apple Store on Wednesday morning and picked it up on Thursday afternoon. Very painless. Still working perfectly now.

Just got back from the Apple store, I showed them a video I took of the flickering and they said they'll replace the screen.

They need to order parts so going to take it in next Saturday. I also asked them about the image retention I'm having and they said it passed the tests even though it's still quite annoying to me. So that's 2 birds with 1 stone!

My experience with rMBP screen flicker issue

Hi, I created an account here just to let you know my experience guys.

I experienced the same annoying flickering issue and I realized that it happened only in Wi-Fi (perhaps only in 2.4Ghz mode as others commented) and it showed more in Safari or when the data traffic through Wi-fi was high, so it could be a cable pinched or an interference between the lcd and the wi-fi card in some way.
I took it to the authorized Apple service here in my country and they decided to replace the LCD (by the way I had burn-in issues too as I had a LG panel).
I asked them to replace it for a Samsung panel. Now I've been 2 days with my computer and no problems at all. Everything is fine. No flickering. No burn-in.

So I sugest you to take in consideration 2 things.

1. It appears that is a problem with the LCD panel interfering with the Wi-Fi card (still don't figured out how it happens) so replacing the logic board will have no effect.
2. LCD replacement fixed all the problems. LG panel is crap. If you can, ask for a Samsung panel for replacement as I did.

If the problem appears again, I'll let you know but until now it seems that the replacement for a Samsung panel is the fix.

(Sorry if you think my english is poor, we speak spanish here in Chile)

I bought my mid-2012 MBPr 15" a few weeks ago. Had a very similar (but much more slight) flicker issue. It happened when first opening my laptop from sleep. Only would happen once and never see it again. Very intermittent and unable to reliably reproduce the issue so haven't taken it to Apple yet. However, it seems to have gone away as I haven't seen the issue happen again for the last few days. I'm watching closely, for the issue to happen again. I still have about 5 more weeks to test drive (purchased from Best Buy-Silver RZ member) and if it happens again, will regretfully have to exchange since I'm sporting a samsung display/ssd. Will probably replace with a early 2013 model as those don't seem to be having nearly so many issues being reported. Hate that it will cost so much more (got this one on clearance discount) but may be a better plan in the end.

I have a 15" rMBP (Mid 2012 / 10,1). Running Mtn Lion (10.8.4). I too have the flickering issue. I can't catch it on video. I can't find a way to make to occur. Of course, I take it into Apple, and they can't find / repeat the problem.

I found the easiest way to reproduce it on mine was to get the battery level below 75% (dunno why this mattered), then toggle the wifi on/off repeatedly.

Also seemed to happen when the system was coming out of hibernate mode, presumably when it was trying to establish a wifi network connection.

It may also be related to the Wifi Band (a/b/g/n) that the wifi router is using.

I too have this issue. Lately I have been on the windows side (bootcamp) and experience the flicker. I am using screen extension (thunderbolt) with my laptop to my left. I can see from the corner of my eye the screen on the laptop flicker. I've noticed this more and more lately. Regardless of I am in windows or OS X.

Not sure if I want to do at this point. Might call in and ask for a replacement but it is very hard to catch it. Probably have to just film the screen constantly until I catch it.

I am having the same issue, but with a slightly different setup. I am running a Mac Pro 2008 2x2.8 GhZ Processor. The screen will flicker off and on while the WiFi is enabled (but doesn't occur while the computer is in use) and once I turn it off it stops.

This only started after the last set of updates and now my video card is not compatible with the newer version of iMovie.

Would this upgrade be causing it? My son thinks it is someone trying to hack my system.
