But this laptop is brand new and had the dent/small hole right out of the box. It seems like a defect and I'm concerned it could become bigger over time, etc. What do you think?

I've had this chip in my MBP for a while and it has not gotten any bigger, or smaller :(

I bought a rMBP yesterday and noticed a a small/micro hole in the aluminum case. It's near the bottom of the right palm rests and looks like it was made by a machine or something nicked it in the factory (it's the small dark spot in the attached photo). Should I be concerned? It seems like a cosmetic defect. Will Apple exchange it?

It's not a cosmetic defect. Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago on my first macbook pro. Steve jobs planted a microphone in there to listen in on my conversations. I that sounds crazy but I suspect the same thing is happening to you only this time it's Tim Cook. Don't walk. Run and return it. This is completely unacceptable! Also get the authorities involved. Scary times we are living in people!

Probably just a result of random testing of the aluminum's hardness. Such testing results in tiny holes just like this.

I would take it back! You are paying top dollar for a product. It is not unreasonable to expect the same in return for your money.
