Well, went downtown Riyadh last night to play with the new MBP's

rMBP WOW. Beautiful screen, surprised how light, and super thin, HDMI

cMBP WOW Also very nice, screen GOOD, and a little heavy, but nice feature for upgradeability

Buying at the Navy Exchange, you can only buy what they have in stock, so only the standard preconfigured MBP

Leaning toward the base rMBP, would get the upgradded MBP if it came with 16G RAM

If out of the rMBP, I would be happy also with the cMBP, probably base model and upgrade with 16G Ram and SSD

'Thanks for all the help

Not scared of the rMBP any more

Military and government employees can purchase through apple.com also and actually save around $200. I understand purchasing on base at the navy exchange would be nice because no tax, but you cant upgrade and your stuck with what they have, plus your still paying retail. The $200 savings you get from buying it directly from Apple is the same as paying no tax at the navy exchange.... Build it like you want on apple and buy it through there government store found on apple.com

I would get the old style MBP with a high resolution anti glare screen. If you are working in glare, this will be a great improvement over the MBA or other older MBPs without compromising either ports or upgrade options.

HTH

This is a good point given the environment he'll be in!
