    Hi all,

I'm not sure exactly when it happened, but I noticed that the "Rock" icon on one of the pages. I never knowingly installed it, so does anyone have any ideas as to how it got there?

I checked Cydia, and sure enough RockApp and Rock Extensions were both installed. I'm not a jailbreaking expert by an stretch of the imagination, and I've been very wary as to what apps I install. How did Rock suddenly appear on my phone? Is this anything to worry over?

A lot of new apps require Rock and Cydia will automatically install it with said apps. Have you installed anything new that required Rock?

I'm guessing you installed another App (like MyWi) that has dependencies on Rock Extensions and RockApp. Take a look at anything you've installed recently, and that's probably it.

As noted above, since Rock was probably installed by an application that requires it, uninstalling Rock will also uninstall that app. If you go into Cydia and choose to delete Rock, it should give you a list of all packages that will be uninstalled. You will then be able to tell which was the offending app.

Thanks guys. I didn't see it until today and I haven't installed anything for about a week. I ended up removing it and the list only showed RockApp and rockextensions. Anyhoo, now I'm waiting for the springboard to reload <crosses fingers>.

    Interesting, I didnt know that.
    Thanks.
I try to stick to Cydia stuff only, Im surprised that some devs stay exclusive only to Rock and not have their stuff over to Sauriks server.

Wow, had to do a forced reset. It stayed on the "reloading springboard" screen for about 5 minutes.

FWIW, Rock is "exactly" like Cydia, only better (the reason for the quotations).

I've been using it for a while. It is faster and seems a lot more stable, plus it gives you a better idea of what the app, add-on, theme or extension you are downloading is and is more pleasing to the eye...

    IMO of course. ;)

Rock is not exactly like Cydia. It installs its own proprietary extensions (not unlike Mobile Substrate...but in my opinion less stable). It also does not allow for purchase of apps from the Cydia Store.

A lot of jailbreak store developers are moving to Rock. There are posts on MMI about their reasons for doing so. I haven't run into an app that's sold on the Cydia Store that isn't also sold in the Rock Store. Just like Cydia was the new Installer, I think Rock is going to be the new Cydia.

You may not have run into one, but there are many. PDANet, iFile, Cyntact, Cycorder, QTweeter, SafariDownloader, MusicControls, Cydialer, etc.

Looks like the recent update to the SNES emulator has moved to ROCK. If you recently upgraded the SNES emu app, then you probably got the ROCK stuff via the "upgrade".

Yeah, I was pissed off about this. "Oh cool, a new upgrade! Let's install it and see ... WTF I have to PAY for the app now?"

More stable, huh? It crashed my iPhone on power off until I uninstalled it ...

All of those are on Rock... maybe you need to look again... it even says in the Rock app that every app available on Cydia is available on Rock...
