Ah, looking to finally go on a contract after a year with the iPhone 3G. But, I won't be getting a data plan, so hopefully the price doesn't sky rocket for me.

my current plan:

Fido ( **** rogers )

5pm free evenings, and weekends
6gb data
100 minutes
call display, name display
unlimited text
visual voice mail
no system access fee

that comes to 78-80$ on the bill every month with tax and all that stuff.

Just an FYI... but Fido IS Rogers.

Btw, that's not a good plan at all.

It's not bad considering 6GB was $80 yesterday. However, the thing I love about Rogers is the retentions department :D My brother pays $50/mo for 250 minutes, call waiting, caller ID, voicemail, 6GB data and that's with system access fees and tax.

how is it not good?

i don't talk on the phone before 5 ever... i don't even need a single minute.

the other plans are 60$ for more minutes, 7pm evenings/weekends, less features and 500mb data

mine is cheaper buddy.

I got an email from Fido stating that the $30/6GB is only till July 1st which it better not be. Only available for less then a month would suck.

That's not bad, probably the best plan you can get through retentions that includes the 6GB data. Good for him though, has he been a customer for a long time?

100 minutes is nothing for during the day.

I pay $75 and I get:

My10 (my5+5) local
200 minutes weekday
6pm early calling option
6GB of data
caller id
visual voicemail
2500 text messages (picture/video included)

Just before they re-released the 6GB plan, I was paying $65 for everything up there, except I had unlimited text and only had 500mb of data. For an extra $10, I got 6GB.

Is it true data plans over 1gb have free tethering? But only till end of year? And then what?

it's not that great..

my plan is 750 daytime minutes per month, free after 5pm, all calls to rogers and fido are free (anytime) caller ID, for $50 bucks a month..

then I got the 6GB data for 30 bucks which gives me the visual voicemail and 2000 text msgs per month..

Ummm the 6GB plan is only a data plan. To get vvm on your phone when you don't use one of the rogers "iphone plans" you pay for it as an extra.

How are you guys getting those rates?
I am a current customer and don't have a data plan. I will be getting a 3Gs and when I called to ask about plans they were telling me about 100min, 500MB data and eveings a 7pm for about $80...plus system access fee, etc

What do I ask for to get a quote like that?

And, second question:
how much of a data plan do I need. Rogers is saying that 500MB should be plenty. I'm not downloading movies or songs, I'm just accessing my email, some net browsing, gps functions on the weekend and I hope to be able to log into my office (with Checkpoing Secure Client).
Is 500MB per month enough?

thanks

Yeah, Rogers is getting even more stupid.

Free tethering until December 31, 2009. After that, they MAY offer data plans with the tethering charge included.

Right now, I'm running my iPhone 3.0 with a custom IPCC file... tethering FTW! :D

With occasional youtube using, not connecting to wifi while at work connected to wifi at home, email browsing, wether lookup, some facebooking, some web-browsing, some gps and maps stuff, I usually hover around 300mb/month, so rogers 500mb plan should be right for most people who use the device casually.

Do you know the number for customer retention? I have the telus number (which is not supposed to be available to the public) but not rogers. I plan on getting an iPhone next month and would like to get a better plan. Something more comparable to what I have with telus right now.

what exactly is 'customer retention' at Roger's. this seems to be the entry point to these great deals. i've never heard of it.

damn thats the only good thing about rogers...lol. Its where you go when you want a better deal, or when your deal is up and go and get the best possible plan, they are basically people who are incharge of keeping you with rogers.

when you call rogers, just say cancel contract, and BAM you go straight to retentions, lol

Its not just a rogers thing. I have a really good plan from telus through retention department. Problem being is I cant get the same plan with rogers...
