Hey all!

I upgraded to the 3GS last June here in Canada on the Rogers network.

I remember last year even if a customer wasn't really due for an upgrade (if you were a couple months away from the end of your contract) Rogers let the customer buy the 3GS anyways.

I'm just wondering and hoping someone can shed some light on the situation...will Rogers in Canada and even AT&T in the US let us all upgrade to the new iPhone this June if we were to sign a new contract?

Thanks everyone and have a great day!

Last year AT&T had a program for those who were scheduled to upgrade in July, August, and September. If your monthly bill for the previous 3 months was $99 or greater, you could upgrade on the day the 3GS came out.

For all other phones with AT&T, if your monthly bill is always greater than $99 you can usually upgrade after 12 months.

Yes you're totally right! I forgot about the "$100/mth and over" part....

Do you all think or know either way if Rogers or AT&T will offer the same upgrade conditions with the new iPhone this summer??

Thanks again everyone!

Probably. However, if you read carefully thru many of the complaints, it was from people who were paying the minimum iPhone charge and yet wanted the latest and greatest from AT&T, yet they didn't qualify.

If you pay over $100/month on a single line, then yes, you might be eligible for discounted pricing. You may not get the $199/$299 deal, but you get the $499/$399 deal. It beats $599/$499.

All I know is on June 19th of this year I'll have had my 3GS for one year and still have another 2 years on my contract (they make us sign 3 year plans in Canada) and I truly hope they allow me to upgrade to the new iPhone and resign another contract for another 3 years.

Or I'll have to cancel, pay the ETF and resign up to another phone number. Even then I'll probably save a $100 or so rather than buy the phone at the full retail price!

Don't count on that being cheaper. It will be $199 (for the cheapest iPhone ) +$400 ECF and a $100 DECF. So $700 plus tax. Some plans might be $600 so it depends on your plan.

The only way to know for sure is to wait and see. I'm sure it'll be similar to last year.

Yeah, I recall last year that I had owned my 3G for almost a year, (still 2yr left on contract) had over $100/mnth on total wireless bill (3 phones), so I got the upgrade price on the 3Gs with a 1yr extension. It was pretty awesome, other than the fact that they announced this the night before, so all of the employees were confused and their system was down.

Rogers still hasn't said anything or even ackknowledge any possible new iPhone but if the rules are te same ad last year, this is what will go down possibly.

Upgrade to iPhone before August 31, 2008 = 3 year pricing
iPhone from Sept 1, 2008-August 31, 2009 = 3 year pricing + $250
After August 31, 2009 = Full price

Or they will probably allow to skip any of these rules if you spend greater than $100/month. Rogers loves it high revenue customers.

So if I bought a 3G on launch day (July 11th) I'd likely be able to upgrade to the new iPhone at the 3 year price? I never upgraded to the 3GS because I didn't care about it. My actual upgrade date for my phone is obviously July 11th but here's to hoping they'll let me upgrade early. Regardless I have another phone I'm going to upgrade to it if they won't do it for this one!

I hope last year's rules apply. On Rogers, I got the 3GS 32gig for $300 and sold my old 3G on Ebay for $400! Nice!! :D

Any Rogers customers notice any new change to their upgrade date??

Mine doesn't say anything...doesn't even say I'll be able to in 2012....just doesn't say anything!

Rogers needs to step their game up....like AT&T did

it's bad enough we aren't going to have the iPhone on launch day, but I just realized I'm $4.00 bucks under the $100 a month bill charge before taxes....
