Why would they give him a new phone less than a year into the 3G contract?

Me thinks there's more to this story than your dad's telling you.

My dad's not really the lying type..
He had a customer service issue that was handled badly. They're probably just trying to keep him since the iPhone is going to be going to an additional carrier shortly.

Even if the phone literally fell apart in his hand, he'd just get a new 3G ...

Are you sure they didn't offer him an upgrade for $X and he just paid?

EDIT - what additional carriers? rogers and fido are the only GSM games in town.

His issue wasn't with the phone, it was with a situation I'm not going to get into.

I'm sure it was the 3gs, yes.

Well ... if it was some special, extraneous situation and they offered your dad a new handset (or, presumably, a $500 credit) to keep him happy, that's one thing. So why are you asking if "Rogers is giving away iPhones", when even yourself seems to know that's not the case?

Not trying to pick on you ... but I was a bit misled by your thread title.

haha
maybe the title is misleading?

This is something Rogers is A LOT more likely to do than say, AT&T.

I was just curious if anyone else had a similar situation.
