As I travel in Canada and the US I have a phone with Rogers and one with ATT.

My Rogers speed is way faster than ATT.

Rogers is 3.1 mg and ATT is almost 10% of that.

    Is this normal?

I am such a iPhone fan, Mac is the closest thing to a Cult that I support..

HOWEVER I do have to keep a verizon phone for a back up for my ATT, as there are times I have to be available... how sad is that?

ALSO for only $20 per month, there is no roaming anywhere in Canada or the US. If only ATT or Rogers could do that.

I admit 3.1 Mbps is impressive, I often see speeds here in FL in the 2.2 range, as high as 2.33, obviously not as good as Rogers, but not so bad really, plus if I'm not mistaken, isn't Rogers using the upgraded 7.2 network, while AT&T is not quite there?

I usually get around 1.5Mbs which is good enough for what I do. BTW your upload speed seems really slow. mine is almost always at least 400Kbs or more on 3g

I'm okay with my speed on AT&T. They are definitely inconsistent though, from one place to another.

I do consistently get faster speeds on my Aircard with my MacBook pro than I do on my iPhone though, so there is definitely something different about the iPhone hardware.

AT&T in my area isn't too bad.. I must say unlike some they are somewhat consistent where I live. :) (SW Florida)

This is from the Swiss Chalet in Niagara Falls (Canadian side) on Rogers, got bored waiting for my food. I saved it cause it was the fastest I've seen. Home in NB I usually get around 2.9-3.1 constant.

Didn't Rogers implement the 7.2Mbps HSDPA so you Canadians should be seeing much better speeds than the Death Star.

Ya .. I gotta admit our network is half-decent.

It's just the contracts and prices that need to get figured out.

I used to view Rogers as the worst phone company, they have really gone out of their way to please the iPhone users...

I wrote up a big response agreeing with you, then I decided to delete it and just add this:

Where the speed worked nice was at a Church Camp that did not have internet access. I tethered to my MB Air, and sent the signal out via the airport, and several were able to get their email etc..

Sending data was a problem, but they were all aware only to send text. I have not come close to the 6 gigs allowed..

Rogers also let me upgrade to the GS after only being on one year.

    I used to detest Rogers.

What did this cost you, money and contract wise?

My parents live in Montreal so I got a Rogers PAYG sim card for when I visit. Unfortunately there's no plan that allows data, I wish it did because I'd like to compare the speed to AT&T in (notoriously slow) NYC. At least I had free wifi at Second Cup ala Starbucks, and actually saw the MMS button. :p

$199.00 Canadian with a $50 rebate from apple. (But have not seen that promised form yet)

PLUS my contract was extended another year, so now it is back to two years left on it.

AT&T 3G used to be about 1.2 for me most places. The last few months have mostly been 0.4.

You only had to pay $199 and the add the year you've already used up? Man, that's a pretty great deal.

I assume you sold your 3G and made up the difference?

I feel bad now. My AT&T DSL is as fast as your cell network. $25 a month.
