I had this problem where i recently had to reinstall my ichat on my macbook pro and delete many of my user preferences. i have deleted all except for one and when i try to drag it into the trash, it does not land in the trash bin. when i try to open it, a pop up comes up and it says that "the alias 'com.apple.ichat,plist' can't be opened because the original item can't be found." it also gives me the option to "delete alias" which closes the pop up window but then reopens it instantly (doing nothing), it gives me the option to "fix alias..." and when i click on that, it asks what file i would like to open. Please tell me how to fix this because it denies me to type messages on ichat with other people.

Can you move it anywhere other than the Preferences folder? What happens?

There are two things that come to mind... either somehow, ACLs got put on the alias, and there's a bug in chmod that makes it so that ACLs on an alias can't be removed; or your directory structure is corrupt and won't allow you to change that file.
