    Shift
    Control
    Option
    Command
    Space bar

I'm wondering what general modifying flavour/influence is assigned to each of these keys. It is not always obvious. But each, surely, has a specific influence.
    Thanks.

Shift: move constrained in a straight line (vertically, horizontally, 45°).

Control: don't snap to guides or smart guides.

    Option: make a copy.

Command: select the object even if you're not using the object tool (the black arrow pointer).

Space bar: drag the view (though not when the text cursor is in a text box object or entry field in a palette).

For example, if you have smart guides on… shift + option + control + drag an object horizontally = make a horizontally aligned copy while not smart aligning with any objects vertically nearby. Let go of control, and you'll see InDesign trying to smart align above or below the copy.
