Gaudemus!

The importance of the name, Leo XIV, can’t be overstated. Time will tell, but we might be witnessing a very influential papacy. Certainly, that’s the Pope’s intention.

I highly recommend reading Leo XIII’s encyclical “Rerum Novarum”, as it probably changed history and is still quite actual. I also recommend reading John Paul II’s more current follow ups, “Laborem Excersens” and “Centesimus Annus”. Regardless of one’s perspective, they’re insightful reads that certainly provide food for thought.

I also wanted to share the updated Tu es Petrus, with Gregorian notation which is always super-cool.

Years ago, (I was reading and researching a bit about (the development and evolution of) Catholic Social Policy), I did read Rerum Novarum.

Agree about the importance of the name, something - as with the choice of the name Francis (which delighted me) by his predecessor - that I find fascinating.

And what an extraordinary CV - in life, lived experience, education, qualifications - Leo XIV brings to the Papacy.

I recommend reading Centesimus Annus too, as it’s contemporary and also quite an insightful document.

Agreed. The first thing that caught my eye is that he has a degree in mathematics and a doctorate in Canon Law. I got the feeling that he’s very methodical and a person that is very difficult to fool.

He’s also a big baseball fan, which is a plus.

@Scepticalscribe I forgot to add. Check the history (how they came to be, what they did, why they were removed) of the so-called Leonine Prayers (Leonine from “Leo XIII”).

I can’t go into PRSI stuff (they also tie to what we discussed about Francis’ consecration of Russia), so I’ll be vague, but you will see further proof that the name is VERY symbolic and that the first speeches by Leo XIV reflect a certain mindset.
