I am making the conversion from mini-dv tapes to AVCHD. I have a new Canon HG20. My old FCP sequence settings are set for DV NTSC 48 for log and capture on Mini-DV.

I did a trial run with log and transfer with some footage off of the HG20 and the clips went into the bin with no problem. The HG20 was set to SP for recording.

When I looked at the clips in the capture folder on the hard drive, the file size was huge, about a gig for a minute of captured video.

This file size is much larger than a clip captured from mini-dv.

Is this because this is HD. What FCP sequence settings should I be setting in my AV preferences?

Just drag and drop a clip to the sequence, FCP will prompt you that the sequence doesn't match the clip and would you like to change them; click yes.

AVCHD is converted to ProRes during the Log and Transfer process, that is why the file size is so large. Your sequence settings should match the ProRes setting from L&T.
