Is anyone experiencing issue with the rotation not working intermittently until restart? This is happening to my iPad after iOS 8.4, when using Touch ID to wake iPad from sleep. If I use the standby button first before unlock, then it seems to be fine.

Since my iPad was also jailbroken right after the upgrade, I want to see if it is related to the JB.

Is this hard to replicate? Is there a way for you to intentionally replicate the problem?

I haven't been experiencing any issues with this that I've noticed. I only use the home button to wake the iPad.

Thanks. I wiped it and set it up as new. Now it's working as it should.

I have the same problem after updating to 8.4

Anyone know how to fix?

I spoke too soon. The problem happened again this morning, and this time there was no jailbreak. Everything was stock and iPad was set up as new.

It seemed like the occasional rotation issue only happens when I used the thumb ID to unlock iPad from standby (without using the sleep/wake button. I can make the rotation working again simply by put it to sleep by sleep/wake button, and wake it again with the sleep/wake button before I apply finger ID unlock.

Also, the unintentional rotation lock also only occurred when it is not plugged in to the power source.

I'll keep on monitoring it, and report when I notice anything else.

Same issue for me as well, even after a restore. Also my air 2 becomes unresponsive at times and the screen is slow to wake up from sleep.

I have the same problem on my iPad Air occasionally. I really dislike the lacking amount of careful work apple puts into iOS (old previews in multi tasking for example).

Update. Just had this issue happen on my iPad. It opened in safari and would not rotate. Switched to the home screen and back a couple times and it started working again.

Thanks for confirming that it is a iOS 8.4 bug. Happily reverted back to iOS 8.3. It fixed the Music app home sharing function too :)

Same problem for me on an Air 2. I tried to backup, erase all setting, and restore. Still does it. What I've noticed:

- Seems to be related to being screen off for 1 minute or more
- Waking it up (home or sleep/wake button) is very sluggish, 0.5-1 second delay for screen lighting up
- Rotation issue is basically 100% reproducible for me if its been asleep for 1 minute or more
- Asleep for less than a minute and I don't get the lag, nor the rotation lock issue
- If I click the wake button, let the screen light up, then hit the wake button twice more (back to sleep,
Then awake again) the problem doesn't happen

I'm not having this issue at all (no lag, no rotation lock) on my iPhone 6. Have reported the issue to Apple but I suspect they'll only take it seriously when they get a lot of complaints. Would be great if you guys could try the one minute delay and sleep/wake things I've observed to see if it's reproducible on your devices. And report it to Apple as a bug!

Is there an easy way to revert back to 8.3?

Was hoping there would be 8.4.1 by now...

I can confirm the rotation issue on my Air2 64gb WiFi.
It is not related to fingerprint ID, as I do not use that.
Furthermore it can not permanently be cured by deleting the settings, doing a reset (home+power), using iTunes instead of OTA, restoring a backup or restarting the device. It re occures always after some time and seems to be related to sleep.
There is also a discussion in Apples supportforums.
I have also sent a bugreport to Apple.

Please report it, as I hope for a fixed 8.4.1 soon! This severe error on the current iPad should be fixed before 9.0!

Meanwhile I consider going back to 8.3 as long as Apple still signs it.

Apple was still singing 8.3 last night. Very likely they are still signing it today, so hurry!

I have had the same problem after updating, I think it is the compass
that needs to be re calibrated, I have an app that uses it and notified me that it needed recalibration, after turning it around once or twice the problem disappeared.

Happening here too. Reverting to 8.3 on both iPhone and iPad while they're still signing it is starting to sound tempting.

I would think twice about reverting when all it needs is probably recalibration like mine, just saying.

You need a 3rd party app to perform this calibration or is it something in the setting? If its a 3rd party app, which did you use? I want to try it out for myself.

I am using Compass HD but there are others. I have the iPad Air2 cellular, I am not sure if the wifi only model has a compass built in.

It seems to work fine on the wifi version. I just used it for a couple minutes, I'll see if the problem reoccurs and if so I'll open the compass app to see what its doing.

That won't fix anything. If you want to avoid the problem, don't turn the device on using the home button. Use the Lock button. At least until Apple fixes their newly introduced glitch.

same problem here, iPad Air 1 cellular. It happens very few times but the bug it's there.
I can make it happen to mine every time. Just let the iPad sit in rest mode for about 10 minutes, and then wake it using the home button. Waking it with the home button takes a second or two longer than usual now since 8.4 was installed. If I notice there's a lag when it wakes, it's 100 percent of the time accompanied with the screen orientation lock bug. If you do everything I described except use the lock button instead of the home button to wake it, 100 percent of the time you'll have no screen orientation problem. I hope they fix this quickly.
