These iPads, specifically the Mini, are going to dominate the holiday shopping season. I can't imagine any product being more sought after this year.

What? More sought after than My Little Pony Pinkie Pie?

Actually, you aren't a troll. That would be an insult to trolls.

I've actually decided I'm gonna buy the iPad Air because it's prettier than Nexus 10 (one for myself, one for my gf, one for my dad). Which color do you guys think I should buy? Space Gray or Silver?

----------

The SAME cpu/gpu should perform BETTER when pushing WAY more pixels to a MUCH larger screen??
Can you explain why that would happen to me please?

When I was reading your comment I was gonna call you a N00b in my reply but I see that very fittingly you already have that in your name. As me and some of the experienced forum members have been discussing, the A7 in the 5S is most likely underclocked for thermal reasons so it's not performing at its full potential. Does that make sense to you or should I try and explain it another way?

Hahaha, that looks like it compliments a 5c and iOS 7 perfectly. My daughter would love it.

I prefer iPads with the black bezel, as it seems to provide better contrast (to my eyes, at least).

As for the back, I use skins (to protect and customize), so the iPad backing's color is irrelevant for me.

Bodyguardz has a carbon-fiber type one that I really like in (Sith-Lord) red. Yes, I know, my geek is showing...:D

You are SOOOOO smart!!!!
I'm WAY surprised others here compare you negatively.. to a troll!
I mean; I respect you.

That actually (begrudgingly, b/c of your attitude) is a reasonable point w/ regards to clocking. Apple has been known to undclock about 200mhz... I suppose that'll even up the score a bit. Still, I don't expect the iPad to blow the iPhone out of the water or anything... running the same silicon.

FWIW, that wasn't a legit question (see posting history and context of question), but at least your answer was right on :)

I'm using an iCarbons white rear protector on our iPad 4 - very accurate fitment, provides scuff protection and even improves the grip a touch vs. bare aluminum. I didn't want anything that added bulk, and wasn't concerned with drop protection. I even stopped using the smart cover (unless traveling) and added a Tech Armor screen protector, that has excellent "feel" (compared to the bare glass).

Probably do the same with the new device too, like the ultra minimum protection :D

Just curious, why is touch ID so much needed on iPads? I can see the need of it on the phone since I get my phone out of the pockets every few minutes, and without touch ID means having to enter passwords hundreds of times a day. It may be just me but I don't use iPad the same way. Not to mention that most of the times my iPad is used in my home and never with passcode ON, only when I take it out on my travels.

Agreed. I believe that a more useful feature would be separate user accounts.

The iPads get shared a lot in my home, just as the Macs do. I don't get why Apple has not done this yet. There has to be a better way to control access to mature/adult content than to have my kids run to me every time they want to download an app or me have to enable/disable restrictions...

That's my #1 feature request. (I know the naysayers will suggest this is to sell more devices, but I'm not convinced the net gains wouldn't be more positive _with_ offer this feature than _without_)

Add something like a profile API where account configurations, passwords, etc., can be allocated to a specific user. Heck, I don't even need separate software libraries, just the option to prevent access to things like email, dropbox, web passwords, etc., pretty much anything that requires authorization/confirmation ... then the API could also handle auto-population per profile.

The gap between primarily Apple users and mixed OS users continues to widen. Brand-agnostic folks look on with interest as each vendor continues to inch ahead and fall behind in different categories. Many of us love Apple products, but saw these iPad improvements as mostly catch-up. On the other hand, you get MG Siegler's mind-blown awe on TechCrunch that says that "the iPad mini got spec upgrades that are nearly unfathomable." Unfathomable? The above quote is about specs, not OS, app ecosystem, or Apple intangibles. The specs are almost a dead match with the Nexus 7 (except for the nearly 75% price premium for the mini). So why would catching up to modern specs be "unfathomable"? Hoping to be quoted in the next keynote, perhaps?

I regularly use an iPad, Macbook Air, ATV, etc. I also use a Windows desktop, Android phone, Roku streaming box, etc. I don't see the desperation to be acknowledged as "best" on Android or Roku forums. I don't read Windows forums, so I can't comment on them. I think it has to do with interoperability in the end. I can use Google, Amazon, or Spotify services across any platform I want. But Apple locks you in. When locked into Apple services, it's really important to believe that the devices are the best too.

Multiple user accounts is one of the few things the Barnes and Noble Nook tablets get(/got) spot on. It works really well! The implementation is very Apple-ish even.

I wish Apple would do it too.

Haven't been on the forums today so I'm not sure if people have been bitching but My God, I cannot believe the new iPads lack touchID.

That's because the next version of iPad will contain it. I'm guessing here, but Tim Cook's praise for all the things users have done thus far with the iPad, plus the images in the presentation containing a square iPad interface (it looked real instead of a "stretched" 9.7 screen), which I'll call "iPad Pro", suggests that he'll announce the device at either MacWorld or the Consumers Electronic Show as a larger format iPad. This will be the final nail in the PC coffin, and will take on the MSFT Surface more directly. ..Alex.

2GB RAM, 2560 x 1600 pixels, 10.1 inches (~299 ppi pixel density), Corning Gorilla Glass 2, 1.9 MP Front Cam, Dual-core 1.7 GHz Cortex-A15 (this beats many quad core Android processors even)

VS

1GB RAM, 1536 x 2048 pixels, 9.7 inches (~264 ppi pixel density), No Gorilla Glass, 1.2MP front cam, Dual-core 1.3 GHz Cyclone Processor

I do concede that the Nexus 10 is heavier and thicker than iPad Air and battery life is 1hr less but that's because it's pushing more pixels and it's more powerful. Keep in mind the Nexus 10 is ONE YEAR older which is like a light year for tech. The new Nexus 10 that will be released in the next few days will blow iPad Air out of the water on pure specs no question. I'm not saying the experience will be as pleasant though. We'll have to see.

Interesting, but please explain how the 32 bit Cortex is more powerful than the 64 bit Cyclone. Speed alone does not make it better. Also, give a reference to the iPad Air RAM. I am not aware of this published anywhere.

That is the hot ticket in my house right now with my kids.

Ahh yes, paper specs certainly the main reason to go out and buy a tablet. I guess Android tablet manufacturers have to have something to brag about.

I will not do your research for you.

IPad Pro

I see iPad Pro coming our way in the near future. "iPad Air" just reeks of it. I speculate it will have a slightly larger screen, will be thicker and packed with at least MacBook Air power. Oh reinvented pen + detachable keyboard.

In fact, I already wait it... -- an iPad that can truly replace a laptop and do even more.

As I said I'm not gonna do your research for you but I'll give you a head start. You can go to the iPad section in the forums and you'll see proof of Apple confirming 1GB.

That was not what I was referring to and until iFixit does a tear down we won't officially know how much RAM. So please explain how a 32 bit Cortex is more powerful than the 64 bit Cyclone as you claim it will be.

You'd think TouchID would have worked quite nicely with multi-user accounts/profiles. No need to select a user/login, the iPad would log you into the appropriate account based on the fingerprint. Ah, well..

It's already been discussed. Ok I'm done with this particular thread everyone please stop quoting/trolling me here. Thanks.

Oh OK then. For a quick history of Gorilla Glass, you may want to check out Steve's bio. Then you'd know where your Nexus got it from.

Anyhooo, I can't wait for the tear downs to hear what exactly is the difference if any inside. Right now the decision is pretty tough.
