router problem

my friend has a modem and a linksys router, im over here, and im on my mac. but whenever i get on my mac or even his laptop.. we cant get on xbox vice versa we can get on the mac if were on the xbox.. is there anything i can do maybe in the network pref on the mac or anything.. to make this work its such a hassle.

Sounds like you're not using DHCP. You want a dynamic IP address. Probably you're getting a conflict. check in system preferences.
