I have a two year old mac book pro and use a verizon u150 wireless internet with a usb. I have great speed with full bars when it is plug into the mac but when I use the router and plug the u150 into the router the bars drop by half and the speed is slower then dial up. The router is a cradlepoint 1000. Is this normal for a router?

The u150 is a verizon wireless card with a usb and is plugged into the router by usb. It plugs into my Mac the same way.

Hmm, I'm afraid I can't help you there. Why are you trying to use the router? To share the internet connection with other computers?
