Sexist or not, I think the most annoying part is announcing a new game with a press release chock full of pointless nonsense instead of just doing a video that shows gameplay. Maybe it will be a good game, but it's hard to imagine anyone thinking that marketingspeak is anything but pandering garbage.

A Franchise Named Angry Birds

"HEY STELLAAAAA!!!
HEY STELLAAAAA!!!"

I think Rovio needs to produce a non-angry bird app at this point, creating a retread of their original game is getting old. I guess the only way they'll stop if people stop buying/playing it.

I believe they tried this, with Amazing Alex, IIRC.

BL.

Ms. Pac-man wins again!

I don't see it. What's the horribly sexist part?

a) Making a gender-based version at all.
b) Using the words "fierce and feisty". I could be way off here, but it seems "feisty" is more often used as a sexist insult.
c) Bringing the whole concept of "frenemies" into it, as if it must be immaturely social just because they're female.
d) Calling them "passionate".
e) "Best friends forever"

I mean, the "male version" (which totally has at least one female, since one lays eggs) is grown ups sacrificing themselves to rescue children. This just sounds like the annoying kind of 12-year-old girls--something that no self-respecting woman would touch with a twelve-foot pole.

But what do I know? I don't have a vagina.

Angry Birds Stella.: play as bob, dressed in his jeans and white vest with a 6 pack of Stella Artois his mission is to lay the smack down to his missus !!

Haha

I never caught into the angry birds craze. Despite being a big Star Wars fan I couldn't even get I to that release. It's just the same freaking game with a really awful story over and over again. I suppose the same can be said about other games (Mario comes to mind although they've made some changes over the years). Maybe I just hate the genre. What is it anyway, puzzle? Oh well...

I don't blame them at all for milking it. If it makes money, hit it while it's hot. Won't last forever.

People get offended way too easily these days. Jesus...

Am I the only one who read this and thought it was horribly sexist?

Right. If something is obviously manly, it's just... manly. When something is obviously womanly, it's just... sexist.

Oh good grief. That was probably sexist right there!

So I still think it's not sexist.
- it's OK for characters in video games (or books or movies, etc.) to have a gender.
- it's OK for characters in video games to have a personality. Fierce, feisty, and passionate aren't pejorative and aren't really associated with a negative female stereotype. These are just personality traits that some people have.
- "frenemies" and "BFFs" are words real people use to describe relationships they have.

Let's put it this way: must video games use gender-neutral characters without personalities and avoid contemporary relationship language to not be sexist?Imagine applying the same logic to novels or TV shows or paintings.

Now, you can argue whether they are pandering to women or girls or appealing to them. (I'll leave that argument to someone else). But sexist? No. (Based on what's been shown so far. We haven't seen the game.)

Is that the one with the colored helium balloons? I hate that one more than any of the others. The fun ones are the exploding bombs guys, the big orange balloon guy and the Bomb dropping eagle. Oh, and the yellow dive bomber is pretty good. The rest are really boring.

Ever hear of Batman, James Bond, Spiderman, Superman, Street Fighter, Plants vs Zombies, Simpsons, The Walking Dead, Sonic, Mario, Tekken, Call of Duty, and on and on and on. All of these have spilled into additional media areas... are they considered "milking" those franchises too?

Yes they are, why?
