Yeah, if you only burn simple disks, like music from itunes ect, then its best to stay with the built in software.

very very simple discs... the OS... besides being slower than Toast barely does what most people... particuarly a PC switcher... would consider adequate from the OS... c'mon... it doesn't even let you do a simple disc to disc copy of an audio CD.

so... i would definitely choose Toast.

Even though I've Toast 7 installed, I don't use it as much since Mac OS X can write discs that Windows can read, but Toast is definitely full of goodies.

I believe that you'll find that Apple doesn't allow audio CD copies just to satisfy the recording industry. It makes sense to not upset them since iTunes allows you to rip the music. iTunes has the potential to make money. Audio CD copying does not.

Roxio (or whatever their name this week), doesn't quite have the same constraints.

Disco, a shareware application, does a pretty nice job of doing a few extended things that the operating system doesn't.

Wow thanks for the heads up folks. I'm still using Toast Ti5 which I migrated over from a computer that would still boot OS9 so if something crapped out now I'd loose it.

So I was just about to order 7 and figured it was close to MacWorld I ought to see if maybe there would be a release. Glad to see this. There isn't much else about it.

Can't live without Toast. I know you're going to say "well if you can't live without it why are you using a version that's years old?" to which I can only say up until lately it's been able to do what I wanted from it but I keep running into some problems so I'm ready. Can't say I haven't gotten my money's worth out of Ol' 5 though. :D

I will be waiting for this as it would be a nice thing this new year to have as well as iLife '07 :D :D I hope Popcorn2 will be in there as well if it hasn't been updated in awhile.

Didn't Toast incorporate Popcorn's features into Toast 7?

I'm currently using Toast 6 + Popcorn. If you have Toast 7 (or 8 when it comes out), why would you also need Popcorn?

Popcorn, yes, but I don't believe Popcorn 2 (which v8 might handle now). I don't know much about Popcorn/Popcorn 2 though - I never bought it since, as you say, v7 had its functionality built-in, so that's all I ever used.

I think buy.com has a really good deal on this, something like $40 with all the rebates and whatnot - definitely worth a look for that price (though I'm a Disco-er myself!)

For those who haven't seen, Toast 8 is also required for TivoToGo for the Mac to write DVDs.

Yes, and I've waited so long for TiVoToGo for the Mac. But I've noticed that TiVo hasn't released an upgraded Mac Desktop, so will this solution only let you burn TV shows to disc? I'm more interested in downloading them to my laptop and watching them there, like you can in Windows with TiVo desktop 2.3

Of course, now that I've upgraded to an S3 box, I can't TiViToGo anyway, until CableLabs gives TiVo permission to turn the feature on on this box.

Amazing price from buy.com on Toast 8. Only 37.99 after rebates. It was $100 a week ago for the older version. This seems like a heck of a deal.
