Instead of checking Facebook every 2 seconds, I have RSS for my notifications. Is there any chance of adding support for RSS notifications for PMs on MacRumors?

I like the idea but would this work for you? I don't know how many PMs you get though.

Nope, I check e-mail much less than I check MR.

I get a few PMs, and I like to know about them asap (often a PM is something someone wants answered now)

How many times do you refresh a Macrumors page? I get notifications of new PMs from the pop up. To be honest I've found IM services to be much better then posting or sending a PM.

Not to mention the staff appreciates it when you don't turn a thread into an IM session.

I don't believe RSS supports login authentication, so it can't be done.

I just assumed that it would because of Facebook. Oh well...thanks for the response :)

hmm... how does facebook do it? My understanding is that RSS feeds were public. But I may be wrong about it.

I suppose if the alerts were just generic. like "New PM", then it could work. Then anyone else could know when you got new PMs but couldn't read them.

Actually, there are quite a few RSS feeds out there which require authentication, such as Gmail's inbox RSS feed (actually, an Atom feed).

Most RSS readers support either HTTPS/SSL or HTTP Authentication.

So it's definitely possible to have a private RSS feed.
