I want to get a RTS for my new iMac and am having a hard time choosing between Civ IV and Age Of Empires 3.

I have played Civ 3 on my PC and liked it but i would really like some others opinions.

Considering that Civ IV isn't a RTS, that's not much of a choice. ;)

Warcraft 3: Frozen throne. It might be old, but damn its still good.

If not, Boot camp and get some C&C on the go.

Sorry if i am calling the game the wrong genre but i thought that Civ and AoE were similar types of games. Which would y'all choose between these?

    Well they're both strategy games.

The thing is the Civ is not an RTS. RTS = real time strategy.

Though I haven't actually played it, I'm under the impression that Civilization is a TURN-based strategy.

Typically, that means that you... take turns with your opponent.

I used to play Master of Orion II, and that was turn-based as well. So if it we my turn in that game, then I'd get a chance to give orders to each of my colonies as to what structures/ships I want them to build, and each item would take a specified number of turns to finish building. I could also order my ships to move, and how far they moved each turn would be determined by the engines on each ship.
Then you would get a turn, and a get a chance to do those same things.

So the main difference is that I get to take my time deciding what things I'm going to build, as opposed to REAL-TIME strategy, where if I take my sweet time making decisions, you're going to kill me before I get any defenses up.

Boot Camp and get Company of Heroes, the most kick ass WWII RTS on the planet. The graphics are amazing, and if you have any love of history it will be very enjoyable.

Yeah, they're really not at all similar. Which one to choose depends on whether you like chess-like games involving a lot of thought and taking turns, or fast-action real-time games. (Actually, "RTS" isn't a good acronym, because real-time games typically don't involve much strategy. More like RTT--"Real Time Tactical.") Therefore it's hard to recommend which one you should buy unless you say what kind of games you prefer.

None of those are in the very short list of "which would you choose between, Civ IV or AoE3". ;) Reading comprehension = good! Try it!

I can second this. It's very good.
