RTX 3080-Ti

Their consensus is that the 3090 isn’t a viable gaming GPU and for the price/performance the 3080 (non Ti) is the top end. If you consider that then the Ti with its higher cost don’t make sense give the small performance boost.
Whereas Linus is comparing it to the 3090 and given the performance is near that for less money it does make sense
My take is that it’s a pure money grab by Nvidia divertering precious components to a product line that isn’t needed right now. They would be better served using the components to fulfill existing orders and not trolling out yet another GPU
Doubt they’ll ever catch up in this generation for the cheap gaming cards. Plenty of dealers have the pro cards in stock not that expensive/overpriced. Just buy a RTX8000, availability problem solved. 😉
Originally wanted to wait for one, but pretty happy I didn't. From my local store the Ti is going from AU$2799-3449 and I paid AU$1999 for the 6900XT

They know the market is constrained.
They know people a desperate for new GPUs.
If they have a choice in selling a million cards at 20% markup, or a million cards at 70% markup, guess which way they're going.
Makes sense if you can get away with AMD. Doesn’t always work though, as some fields require CUDA. AMD could sell their best cards for $1 and it would still be useless.
That being said, last week a local dealer had the 3080ti in stock for retail price. Wonder how long those will last.
Yeah that’s true, I dabble in 3D and was using Vray RT so was wanting the Ti for CUDA. Switched over to Radeon Pro Renderer, though haven’t really touched it since building my computer ha.
I wonder why the 6900 does so poorly in days gone compared to the other games in the clip.
I wouldn't quantify it as poor, it seems like the 6900 is in a virtual tie with the 3080 (no-Ti) for many of the games listed, i.e., RDRII, Flight Sim and even Cyberpunk.
I was specifically talking about Days Gone though, I've seen some other videos where the 6900XT is faster than the 3080Ti (mostly non 4K loads, I think the IC stops helping at high resolutions). I am not sure what to make of it to be honest.
Oh I know but I'm not seeing anything markedly slower on the above YT. It seems to be in the same vicinity of the RTX - much like the other games.
Basically my gripe is the results are not consistent. I know the newer cards are very temperature sensitive which affect boost clock, and for at least the 6900XT out of the box AMD caps the reference cards at 255W.
Oh I see - Given that its just one game, maybe its a driver issue, in that the game is making certain API calls that is not as optimized as it should be ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm not sure to be honest
Looks like Linus is trying to justify his positive review of the RTX3080-Ti when all other revewers have been incredibly negative.
I'm not done watching the YT, but Linus is doubling down on the idea that the Ti being made from same 3090 components (just less of them), it needs to be compared to the 3090 and it being few percentage points slower then the 3090 its a good deal. He's also justifying that the Ti is a halo product that will garner top dollar. I won't disagree, but I think its more about the timing, why roll out a new GPU that sits between the 3080 and 3090 performance wise (only a few percentage points) and charging so much when they're unable to fulfill orders of existing GPUs
I think it is cause the newer (AIB) cards are LHR cards. It is in nvidias best interest to push miners to CMP HX cards as they have no second hand value for gamers forcing them to get newer cards. I think the 3060Ti would be the last card to be switched to LHR.
I get his point. He is looking at this from the perspective of coming down from the 3090 while everyone else is coming up to the 3080 Ti from the 3080. Neither side is wrong. For 3090 level customers, 3080 Ti is a cheaper option and a viable one. For 3080 level customers, 3080 Ti is not. It is a big jump in price with relatively small gains in performance.
I do agree with Linus, however, that this is pretty typical for the Ti brand.
To be fair YT-ers like GN-Steve have said from the beginning to skip the high tier of graphics cards because they cost too much for the performance offered.
The only time this isn't quite true is the short amount of time you can get them (the 3080ti) for MSRP, where that price will be cheaper than what the 3080 is going for currently.
Math still doesn't make sense. You're paying +71% more (+$500) for +20% (+2GB) more VRAM going from 3080 to 3080ti while paying only +25% (+$300) more for +100% (+12GB) more VRAM going from 12GB 3080ti to 24GB 3090. Performance difference is negligible.
Yeah, different perspectives. I don't agree with GN-Steve that the price is "offensive". As Linus points out, the 2080 Ti is priced the same. Not sure why folks were expecting a cheaper Ti in the midst of the massive demand.
Yeah, but from a gamer perspective, that 24GB VRAM is overkill. That's more for the professional customer.
Yep, and that's why I agree with Gamer Nexus - the 3090 cost too much and you don't need that much vram. The Ti cost more then the 3080 and yet isn't giving you a good enough performance boost to justify the cost.
Clearly if you have a 3080 or can get one before they are all gone (lol) go for that, but as it stand nvidia isn't making them anymore so if you want a 3080 card your choice is just the Ti. If you want "3080" performance you can wait till Thursday and get a 3070Ti which should be close enough.
I actually wonder if they are going to bring out Super series cards towards the end of the year.
