The watch is plenty fast as it is. It could be faster but notifications, Siri and the built in apps all work perfectly.

There is independent wifi. While connected via Bluetooth, turn off wifi on iPhone. Then turn it back on. Then turn Bluetooth off. Your watch will stay connected to wifi.

I mainly use the watch for notifications and it does the job quite well. Battery life could be improved and I wouldn't complain but I don't want a camera and if I want to make a phone call I use my phone! It's already thin and doesn't get in the way.
You must have a better watch than mine. Siri is massively unreliable and often very slow to input what I said. I try to reply to a message, and it doesn't work. I tried to set a timer a day ago, and it just sat there forever. I finally end up giving up and using my phone.

Don't equate derivative android wear bs with the apple watch. The difference in craftsmanship alone is night and day, one is a piece of jewelry, the other is a gadget.

where did I do that? Just mentioned the technology is there to use a GPS in a watch.

I am not saying that it needs to be thinner or lighter, all I am saying is that Apple probably wants to make it as thin and light as possible - just as every other device they produce. The same question is asked everytime an iPhone, iPad or MacBook is released and one year later they make it even thinner - that's just the way it goes. And to be honest I wouldn't mind the watch to be a bit thinner.

This is Apple's first product that is much about fashion as it is technology, so I'm not so sure we'll see the same drive to reduce size. Wrist presence is a thing in the watch world.

I wear a 38mm Apple Watch and have no qualms with the form. Like a Rolex, and I'd be fine if they rarely change the form.

No it looked like it was just pinging lost phone? I know that functionality is already built in.
No, Ping, the golf club manufacturer. They have an app called Ping that helps you putt better but I know it talks about other clubs. Just can't believe it would work.

Like I said, I only posted the specs to mention the technology is there for GPS. But to respond to below, the review you read was the one they pulled (watch was pulled and then later re-introduced) if you look at the date. I don't know about you, but I did own 4 android watches and they were just as functional as the apple watch, in regards to what they said they were delivering. They may not be as elegant but the functionality that Google said they would deliver they did.

Read the reviews of this watch, it has serious problems according to the link you provided. It's a typical Android product, put in features that are not ready just to claim you did it. Apple will never do until the tech is ready for the feature and it can be executed well.

Op sorry, did not mean to offend at all. But AW is smaller and a little thinner than the LG. So yes the tech is there. I don't think though it would scale to even a thinner AW2 with lower battery power yet. I have no beef with Android wear at all. I love both versions of Moto 360. I just don't want lte, imagine paying your carrier another 15 dollars a month for your watch. It seems to me that many Android makers put lots of features that they do not use for awhile. NFC is one example. Google should have beat Apple with a successful payment system. The hardware was in Android phones way before. All the companies and fans bragged that they had and the iPhone did not.

Oh no, not at all. I was just responding to an earlier post about the capabilities in a watch. I personally have no idea what can and can't fit into a apple watch.

I am not interested in buying any Apple Watch, but I got a newsletter today from Apple that announced new models and bands. The delivery time for the "new" models is 6-8 weeks. It does not look like any upgrade, just other case colors.

Did I miss anything or is that the rumoured "Apple Watch 2"? I don't even see any news about that, the email came over 9 hours ago.

"New models" simply means new combos of watch and band, not necessarily upgraded AW body. We got new combos and hence they're "new models."

You have not missed a thing. New colors and bands are all that are happening now.

Actually, what is meant by independent Wi-Fi is the ability for the watch to join networks not already known by the iPhone. You should then be able to enter passwords and different login authorities. If you forget your phone at home or at the office, the new feature should allow you to join unknown Wi-Fi networks.

It would be a very bad user experience to enter a password on that tiny screen.
How often do you forget the most important technological gadget at home for the entire day?
Sure you can have an emergency, maybe you lose or damage the iPhone and have only your Watch, but you'd still have access to known networks. You are describing a corner case, and Apple usually doesn't care about those.

I wouldn't say no to a GPS sensor and to a slightly better battery life. Even a speed increase would be good

I am still hopeful that the next version will have GPS, but if, not a barometric altimeter would be nice.

The watch is actually pretty accurate for me running without my phone, so it would be nice if you could get elevation data from the altimeter. Many fitness bands and running watches already have this, so it should certainly be possible. Plus, I doubt it would have any impact on battery life.

Actually, passwords are small enough that it's not a big deal. Plus it doesn't happen too often. And it's certainly much better than the alternative, which is no connection at all.

I know, because my 2011 Wimm One smartwatch allowed me to enter a password so it could join new WiFi networks without needing a phone. It was just a side scrolling ticker tape keyboard, but thats all that was needed.
