I've been trying to think what improvement or additional feature would I like the AirPods Pro to have?

I'm not sure. Ok, even better ANC would be great; that's kind of a given. But beyond that, I'm not sure what else I would like them to have. Ok, maybe improved battery life so that it can go through comfortably online meetings and conferences that go beyond 4 hours (and these days, many such meetings do).

What else...?

Just had my Airpods Pro delivered this morning, then I read this! lol
Used my 1st Gen up until now, and got the Pro's during a sale, so will stick with them for another few years now. I wont use half the features the current Pro offers anyways!

Bought the recently introduced Beats Fit Pro which are stemless and I am pretty happy with them, how are the AirPods Pro different?

No stems would be awesome! Less worry over accidentally knocking them out wiping sweat away. I wish these were coming sooner, here's hoping my gen 1 airpods last till then.?

I don’t get the dislike on Apple’s part for the stem.

I don’t see the appeal of other brands that are stemless.

Agreed. My Airpods Pro batteries were getting old so I bought some Beats Fit Pro buds when they became available last week as a stopgap until the next gen Pros come out, and I frankly kind of hate them because it's impossible to insert or adjust them without triggering the button that covers their entire face.

Sound quality and durability are trash (relative to price)

A more rounded design with no stem and filling more of the ear... Beats Fit Pros then!
They already have the features of the current AirPods Pro in the more compact design.

"Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has said that Apple is aiming to make the ‌AirPods Pro‌ 2 more compact by eliminating the short stem that sticks out from the bottom."

So APP2 earbuds, similar to the Beats buds and other 3rd party earbuds.

Hopefully Apple will improve on the replacement tips so it gets a better seal like opening up the inner case's space so rounded (foam) tips can be used with a more generic rounded, not oval, fitting. That should help improve a better seal in the ears for noise insulation and help with the ANC/transparency modes.

Third Quarter... that's a big ooof. They are really trying to force as many people as possible who have bought the first generation to buy another pair of first generation AirPod Pros before the new version is released.
I use mine mostly starting in the spring and into summer months while working out and running around. Hopefully they release before this.

Much like the notch, the stem has become such a symbol of nonnovation that we better get rid of it tomorrow.
(except perhaps tentpole-salesmen…)
Can't tell if you meant innovation or have coined a new word. But I like it!

eg
"In Intel's latest nonnovation, Alder Lake, we see a confused attempt to copy ARM's big.Little while not understanding the point, or constraints, of the design".

They’ll probably be stemless (sigh) but I highly doubt that’s actually what they’d look like. That would be so hard to grab out of your ear when the silicone tips are snuggly fit inside your ear and that hard plastic slippery part only sticks out a tiny bit from your head. The end is going to be shaped differently. Look at the Beats Fit Pros that just launched.

Apple will release second-generation AirPods Pro in the third quarter of 2022, according to a new rumor allegedly based on supply chain sources.

AirPods Pro 2 mockup based on rumors

Apple is developing second-generation AirPods Pro to follow the AirPods 3, with the new high-end earbuds set to come out in 2022, according to well-connected Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman and respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. However, neither Gurman nor Kuo have offered a more specific launch window for the next-gen earbuds.

The latest rumor comes from user @FronTron, who on Friday revised a previous claim made in June that "AirPods Pro 2" will be launched by the second quarter of next year "at least." The leaker now predicts Apple's second-generation AirPods Pro will arrive in Q3 2022. The third quarter traditionally encompasses a 92-day window between July 1 and September 30.

While @FronTron has a very limited track record for accurate leaks, the leaker told MacRumors that the tip comes directly from the supply chain and is based on the same source of theirs that predicted AirPods Pro 2 would arrive next year, several days before Kuo said the same thing in a June 30 investors note. While the latter appears to be true, the new information should still be taken with a grain of salt at this point in time.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has said that Apple is aiming to make the ‌AirPods Pro‌ 2 more compact by eliminating the short stem that sticks out from the bottom. Apple is said to be testing a "more rounded shape that fills more of a user's ear," but getting the hardware of the ‌AirPods Pro‌ into a chassis that's reduced in size has proven difficult, so the plan could be scrapped, cautions Gurman.

MacRumors received alleged images of the second-generation ‌AirPods Pro‌ that contradict the stemless design rumors, but they're from a source without an established track record and we can't verify their accuracy.

Gurman and Bloomberg's Debby Wu reported in May that Apple's second-generation ‌AirPods Pro‌ will include updated motion sensors with a focus on fitness tracking. Based on improvements made to the new AirPods 3, other features that are also likely to appear in the second-generation AirPods Pro include an IPX-4 rated water-resistant MagSafe Charging Case, and all-new skin-detect sensors replacing the existing optical sensors.

“Apple's second-generation ‌AirPods Pro‌ will include…” voLUMe coNTRols. I know we can’t admit Siri is still a POS or that humans actually like touch controls for stuff… but come on.

They're pretty much the exact same except for a few small differences:

Apple AirPods Pro -
  • Wireless/MagSafe/Lightning Case Charging
  • 4.5 Hour Battery
  • Touch Sensitive Controls
  • Conversation Boost (The only exclusive software feature)
Beats Fit Pro -
  • USB-C Case Charging
  • 6 Hour Battery
  • Physical Button Controls
  • Wingtip for better in-ear stability
  • Some reviews say better sound but they could just be tuned differently
I recently was deciding between the two since they're similarly priced in stores ($190 vs $200) and ended up going with the Beats Fit Pro due to the better battery life. This is my first pair of noise cancelling headphones and that feature feels like magic. Can't wait to use them on my flight next month.

The stem isn't really unique to apple though as many other companies have used a stem.
Yes. Copy cats trying to gain off Apple’s success.

If you look at big players like Sony, Sennheiser, Bose, Harman Karson and Bang & Olufsen they all use stemless design for their true wireless earphones.

I'm sure the update will be nice. However I'm expecting it to be evolutionary not revolutionary. The current APP are pretty damn good as they are (assuming your ears are not trained for megabuck consumer / pro audio). I'm expecting to just keep using my APP for 3-4 years before recycling them.

Dear Apple there is no design change, new fitness garbage or health stuff that will make me buy V.2
2 changes that will make me buy V.2 is better battery and wifi connectivity for lossless.
