Sounds plausible since Amazon’s new streamer comes out later this October.

It doesn’t say it will be released on that day. Just that that is when the new devices launch. So that is the soonest it could be released. But it gives no hint of when it should release. Other than the app is ready to go.

Can’t efficiently work on open defect without widespread use? Then what about all the features they felt couldn’t stay included in the original scope so we’re pushed into that mysterious “phase 2” project?

My disappointment in the article is that it says older AppleTVs pre-4 will not get Amazon Prime video.

Superb marketing move by Apple.
Apple could take it a step further and only include the app on the latest gen iPads.

I doubt it is marketing. Does the Apple 3 even support the video codec that Amazon prime uses now?

I would find it hard to believe that there isn’t a format that amazon uses that isn’t compatible with with Apple TV hardware

With the Apple TV 3? Is there even an App Store for that device? I mean I can understand them not concentrating on an app for a device that the general population wouldn't have a clue on how they would even get the app on they player. I'm all for supporting older hardware, but not to that extreme.

Need Amazon Prime - ASAP!

I can keep using the Amazon app on my tv. I’ve been going thru the lineup of Amazon movies and shows. What I have found is most are already on another service I have like HULU. So it is not like I am missing out on anything right now.

It's unbelievable how slow Amazon is at rolling out their video app. Not just tvOS, for other platforms as well. Took them something like a year before it became available on PS4 here in the Netherlands. Great if you roll out a world wide video streaming service, but why make it so hard to watch ?

PS: Amazon Prime != Amazon Prime Video, but Amazon Prime > Amazon Prime Video. Explain that to your customers !

I suspect they’ll give their new player a few weeks sales opportunity before letting Apple TV have the advantage of their player. My bet is for a mid November release. Didn’t one of their engineers post that information on Reddit already?

Amazon was on the PS4 from day one in the UK and US. Maybe they just prioritise bigger markets.

Of course not, they don't have an app store... why would that even be expected?

I didn't expect it, but thought this was legit---> https://twitter.com/amazonhelp/status/871831981511802881

Regardless if there is an app store on the AppleTV 3, they could just have the app "appear" on the home screen like the old days if they really wanted to but there is no motivation to do that since they want to sell the new device.
