We have the confidence in a 98%. This is a buzz that’s come from a friend of a friend and comes directly from the USA. The New Digital Camera from Canon would be the Canon 5D.

I can't wait till i can afford a really nice digital SLR but the things I want is a resolution equal to that of 35mm film(i believe it's 11MP so i've heard) and obviously affordable. This Canon and the other Digital SLR's lack the ladder of my two criteria!

The design still sucks in classic Canon tradition. Too many push this turn that controls, and too many gimmicky features. Mirror lock and AEB still buried in menus, no ISO in the viewfinder or LCD, Bah! Stupid Canon. Still waiting for that digital Leica M.

Still, I'll likely buy a couple of Canon 5D's if the rumor is true. Image quality should be very good.

Soooo...we have 10D @ 6.3MP, and 20D @ 8.4MP, and next comes the...5D at 13MP? (He wanted it called the 3D)....

Well...if proves true, it'll be just another camera I'll have envy for....but I'll have to keep going with my Rebel (which I still rather enjoy!)

Exactly - $4k is very pricey and you'd need something more that 13 Megapixels to justify the price for me.

Do they NEED to counter with anything? The D2x is unbeatable right now, and the 5D doesn't touch it...

the d2x is unbeatable at the moment, but resting on it's laurels isn't going to get nikon anywhere...

i've been fortunate enough to shoot the d2x on occasion, it's a ridiculous piece of equipment...

Probably not an upgrade to the 20D, but a distinct model. Rumors are that there will be a 1Ds Mk III also. Given the heavy rebates on the 1D Mk II, the 5D may end up replacing the 1D Mk II and the 1Ds Mk III picking up where the 1D Mk II left off.

The next battle ground for consumer $ is in the DSLR market. Expect to see in the next 6 to 12 months a Canon line up of:

Rebel K2 Digital type - under $600 with lens

Rebel XT - drop to $800

30D - 12mp 1.6x crop for $1200

5D - FF at $3500

1Ds Mk III - best of the 1Ds and 1D at $5000 to $6000

Other companies will have lower priced units and upper end units too.

i would much prefer a 1d mark2 to the 5d. and they are around the same price, chip i cant see the 5d replacing the 1d mark2, not with 3fps.
