I have sources that have told me that Apple will be releasing an Updated iPod Soon.

Features include:
 • Wider Screen (Similar to that of the Microsoft Zune)
 • Higher Resolution Screen (I'm guessing 640x480)
 • Not Touch Screen (I don't know but one of my sources was sure that it didn't have a Touch Screen)
 • Aluminum enclosure
 • Little Bigger form factor (Due to extra features)
 • 5 Colors (I'm guessing Gray, Green, Blue, Black, Pink)
 • 802.11g Built In
 • New iPod OS (Using Theme Similar to that of the iPhone OS)
 • Larger Hard Drives (40Gb and 100Gb)
No Release date was specified but im guessing anytime from Now to end of Q3.

Please Note that i can not confirm my sources as being accurate on any of the above points.

Also Note that i have posted Correct Rumors in the past.

Sounds like an idea built on a little common sense to me, not an actual rumor from an actual source. Colors on the iPod is ridiculous though...too many product lines and part numbers. I'm not entirely sure on the no-touch screen idea though. I'd imagine we'd get an iPhone minus the phone for the iPod.

And you were right about a major Mac software product that supposedly would launch at Macworld...whoop de friggin dooo. Big surprise there...

Id REALLY like to see the new 30/80Gb iPods in the aluminium style of the nano and shuffle. I would buy one in an instant. I don't own an iPod yet, and the only reason for that is i dont like the way the big ones look. If this happens before the summer (June say) then ill be very happy.

If this was a year ago i would agree with you, But look at the Nano and Now the Shuffle.

Point is that i was more or less right!

Kind of a lame update if it's true. After seeing the iPhone in action does anyone expect anything less than a touch screen ipod.

If there is a touch screen ipod then it will probably be at lease a few months after the iphone has shipped

If not in a touchscreen format, how are they going to have a wider screen and incorporate controls?

There are many ways, but i don't know apple's chosen method.

For Example The Touch Wheel could be used Or a Strip down the side (See Apple Patents)

I found a Mock-up thread on which was this:

That doesn't mean you have credible sources. TO me it looks like a lucky shot in the dark. As for the colors...the reasons Shuffles and Nanos have colors is to appeal to larger audiences, mainly because Shuffles and Nanos likely outsell regular iPods 4 or 5 to 1. So it doesn't make good business sense to create so many differentiating products for the line you sell the least amount of.

"Touch your Music" said Steve.

Thats Apple's motto for this year. I expect a touchscreen 80/100GB model. Maybe the iTune supgrade due in a few weeks will be used to launch it...

I did have legit sources but i do understand where you are coming from and that you have no reason to believe me.

Well your right (to an extent), but :apple: may do colors to help increase sales of the iPod.

If not in a touchscreen format, how are they going to have a wider screen and incorperate controls?

I always figured they'd use the nano scroll wheel and a bigger screen if they didn't do a touchscreen iPod.

I'd like to see an iPod that is the same size as the current video models, but with a "taller" screen, a smaller scroll wheel (from the nano), and an accelerometer to know which way you were holding it.

As far as the guess of 640*480 for this rumored "widescreen" iPod, well, that wouldn't be very widescreen, would it? :p Also, the assumption that it'd be "more like the Zunes screen" is kind of silly, since they are already the same resolution (320x240). 640*400 would be sweet, though. I'd like to see something like that, personally. Using the nano scroll wheel, expanding the screen vertically and adding a sensor to detect how you are holding it would be a nice mix of getting what we want (widescreen, higher res, larger screen) and not having to shell out a ton of cash (ala iPhone).

Why do people list their toys in their sig...nobody gives a $#**

Unrelated, but I've been meaning post a response to this for awhile now... I do it, and I like when others do it, because it often helps with technical questions, or just general discussion about products. If someone needs help or offers some advice, it's something/usually helpful to know what their using, and it's convenient to not have to count on them telling you in each individual post. Just my $.02 on it. :D

that would be rather lame because it would give the ipod a "zune-layout" and thus all the m$ fanboys and bill gates would say apple copied them.

i hope this is not true and apple will do a more iphone-ish ipod (iphone without the phone feature and bigger storage).

That's an interesting point, although you could say the same about the Zune now (it's laid out more or less like an iPod). In any case you're probably right that people would think that. A touch screen iPod would be cool, I'm just concerned about price.

I'd much rather have a $250 30 or 40gb Zune-look-alike-iPod than a $299-$349 model with a touch screen.

you seem to be a bit too eager to tell us that you have good sources and that you were right last time and that you are "in the know"

i usually believe in "those who tell don't know and those who know don't tell".;)

but anyway i hope you're right and i'm wrong because then we have a good source of information around:)

as for the ipod's it seems plausible to me. i only think the larger form factor and the 5 colors a unlikely.

you guys know that you can deselect "show signatures" in the USER CP/Thread display options?:D

Interesting, I am actually the opposite, I would rather have the touchscreen, especially after seeing the UI that the iPhone could share with the iPod. Ideally, I would like to see something like:

250$ - 40GB 5.5G iPod Video
300$ - 60GB 6G iPod Touch
400$ - 100GB 6G iPod Touch

Except I don't think a 60gb touchscreen iPod would be $300. I'd expect more like 30gb touchscreen at $300 and 80gb at $400. I agree the iPhone UI is impressive, but the iPod has done well by doing a relatively small number of things and doing it well.

Now, I'd like to see a new Newton based on the iPhone sans the cellphone bits, that would be cool and could be in that $300-500 price range, just below the cost of an iPhone.

But keep the iPod relatively simple and affordable by making it a great music player that is also a GOOD video player (I'd say it's an adequate player now, adding a larger, widescreen, higher res display would make it good).

Hm, in fact I'd go as far as to say that there really should be that distinction in there.

Shuffle/nano - cheap music players w/ some extra features (photos, calendar, contacts) $75-250
iPod - affordable music player that handles video well, too $250-300
Newton - PDA with iPod features via software $300-400
iPhone - Newton + cell phone $500-600

Seems like a very Apple product line to me. Each one has it's advantages and the price difference between models is just small enough to make you consider 'upgrading'.

i reckon it will have;
-multi-touch (whats the point of a new OS if there isn't a new way to input data?)
-aluminium case, thus colours, and seeing how many people here love the orange, it'll come in that as well
-40/60GB and 100GB models.
-thicker to accommodate larger battery
