Too late, I already got a Galaxy 12.2

I wanted to buy this since iPad 1 time.

i will probably get flamed for this on here but its useless if they wont re-design iOS to take full advantage of bigger screens with adjusted features in the future.
Flamed maybe but realize that from the developers standpoint iOS has evolved rapidly. Much has been done to make aps more adaptable to different screen sizes for example. It takes time to overhaul an operating system like iOS but they have been laying the ground work for the last three years.
lets face it our iPads basically run the iOS of a 3.5/4.0 device (i mean just look at the damn folder layout) and even the iPhone 6 / 6+ doesnt add much more functions than being able to read more at the same time.

This is one aspect I have mixed feeling with. It is one reason why I'd like to see Mac OS like functionality supported in Apple tablets.

----------

Is this a really old joke, or am I missing something of recent times with Safari...?

Old yes joke maybe not. It started with somebody saying Safari is snappier and then people coming up with bogus explanations as to why he thought Safari was snappier. The reality is Safari is vastly Improved relative to what was shipping four or five years ago. Even with iOS 8 Safari is snappier.

I was going to say the same thing. They haven't even optimized iOS for the 7.9" and 9.7" iPads. I can't even imagine how bad a 12.9" version would be.

Nonsense! They have put a lot of infrastructure in place to allow much better support of devices with varying screen sizes. Beyond that today's Apple supplied Apps go a long way to leveraging those larger screens.

----------

OS X on ARM makes as much sense as Windows on ARM.
In the right device with the right processor ARM makes all the sense in the world. Windows on ARM is a wholly different discussion mostly due to the obsession with backward compatibility in the MS world. Done right the ARM based Mac would support iOS apps in a window similar to the way the simulators work in XCode.

Hmm , maybe like a Apple A8 clocked at like 1.6-1.7 ghz clock speed alongsid with probably the GX6650 in the iPad, the new iPhones rock a GX4450 or something like that(I think it may be actually GX6450

You need to think more aggressively here. For example an A8X running at 2GHz would be a nice start. As for the GPU I would imagine that they would simply add more cores using the same cores as in iPhone 6.

Let's get real here A8 has a lot of potential, and as such there are many ways Apple could tweak the design to accelerate the iPads. Even simple things like a faster RAM interface could have a huge payoff. Speaking of RAM, RAM is perhaps the weakest link in iOS devices these days. As such more RAM is an imperative, many have been suggesting 2 GB but I'd rather see a jump to 4 GB.

I'd be interested if it could supplement and work with my MBP by running 'Photos' (Aperture replacement) to edit Raw files PROfessionally. Is this likely?

...These may be aimed at business sales though. I can see more uses for business than home. In business, a portrait display may be more useful and easier to carry and show display content to others. I wonder if this maxiPad has some connection to the Apple/IBM partnership?

... I can think of a few artists who could rock out with a 12" maxiPad and a stylus, but mostly I see it as a specialized business tool. It would have it's uses, but not so much for the mass consumer market IMO, at least not at the likely price.
I totally agree with this...iPads are being used by airline pilots to replace maps & manuals, a bigger screen would benefit them...also in healthcare...many business uses where a larger screen in current aspect ratio is just right, and MacBook Pro/OS X computing power isn't needed.

but will it bend?
Safari will be snappier
He's holding it wrong
omg new powerbook on tuesday
Apple is doomed/Apple is doomed:rolleyes:

I think I've now covered all of the usuals.

Don't forget the PowerBook G5! Or that super awesome 3Ghz PowerMac by the end of the year! ...Steve promised.

I'm not sure about who is trying what with laptop PC's these days. I just bought my wife a new Lenovo convertible laptop at Best Buy for $600. Excellent system, Solid State drive, flip over top converts it into a full tablet, touch screen of course, etc. and it's really not that much bigger than my iPad air with it's Logitech keyboard. Loads more power and capability though. I only use the iPad because of my job and even there, it's still really only for presentations and email and web use.

I think when Windows Threshold comes out, it will be a better experience to separate laptop mode from tablet mode. Assuming they fix the DPI issues too, I'd consider going windows. But I don't know, not sure who the 12.9 ipad is for, but the reason I don't like windows tablets/laptop mixes is because it's the worst of both worlds. It's not a good laptop, and it's too big and akward to be a good tablet. Totally my opinion, just sayin.

I hear you, but was surprised. I'd not bought a laptop for a while as her 3lb Toughbook from 2007 was hanging in their for years. However, the newer ones while bigger than an iPad aren't really that much bigger anymore. All specs and speeds, etc aside, it's a decent unit for the money. The wife is happy and you know that's what matters most. :p

Just as an FYI, here are a couple pics of her Lenovo in comparison to my iPad Air and Logitech Keyboard. Both are closer in weight than you'd think and when closed, they are about the same thickness. Of course the laptop is more in both areas but not by an amount that would keep you from carrying it given the choice of the two.

But will it B(l)ent?

But does it bend?

But the real question is: will it bend?

Does it bend?

Is Safari bendier?

Dont get all BENT out of shape lol

Superflous bend comment.

Yeah but will it bend if I try to cram it into my pocket?

At least you two were funny about it.

I don't like the normal iPad's size and opted for the mini but THIS is something I'll pick up. I use the mini in bed sometimes and the air sized iPad is too big for that as I would typically have it slip out of one of my hands and smack me in the face. This one will be used sitting of course and I'll reach for this before the MBA when doing things I can do on both. This thing will be good for golf type games and those that you typically don't need to handle the phone to play.

Using an ipad with a real keyboard isn't the best idea. The thing wasn't thought to work like that or even to do heavy work.

A macbook air or pro would be better than any of those or both together for that purposes. You bought the wrong devices I think.

The way I see it, it'll either bend, or it'll be snappy. Can't have both.

*Bend* or *SNAP*py.

Get it, Coral?

I'd like to call it fake, but then again, every stupid rumor came true in the last keynote. An iWatch that will never do anything useful. An iPhablet that will bend from just wearing it in a pocket. New Apple products are increasingly unreasonable. So why not build a tablet that's too big to be a tablet and too small to be a laptop? Sure it wouldn't work for anything, but that doesn't stop the new Apple. I say it's confirmed. Huge tablets here we come.

"The new apple". This term scares me. Like really. I like some of the things they are doing, but others? Feels like they're turning into a different company with completely different principles than when they started out. The iwatch was surprisingly generic and it looked like Apple didn't even try to make a big deal about it and what it's useful for at the keynote, all these new issues with software wrecking people's phones, sloppy work in general.

I don't want to sound like the "Apple is doomed" folks because I think there are a lot of smart people at Apple and in enjoying the hell out of my new iPhone 6, but I've seen successful companies go to **** before. Sometimes it's quickly others it takes years.

You mean like embracing skeuomorphism instead of avoiding it?

„The reason we have multiple fonts, is because the world has multiple fonts.
We emulate the real world by providing a variety of type styles,
just like you've seen in any well type set manual or book.“

First Public Demonstration of the Macintosh

Yes I think they are a different company.
The new apple doesn't emulate the real world.

Except in its logo.

:apple:

Again, look at the post I quoted. It's a list of things that get said in every thread on the site. I added one more.

Geez, doesn't anyone read before they respond on here?

Sorry. It wasn't clear from your OP that's what you were doing. My mistake.

  • How you can make the statement that the I bought the wrong product for us when you don't know what I use it for?
  • The keyboard and ipad combo like that is actually quite awesome. I do email for hours without issue. I can surf the web and type just like I was using a touch screen PC. The battery lasts for weeks too.
  • I can watch movies without having to hold it in my hands.
  • The cover does a great job at protecting the screen while it's inside my bag and the styling and color match perfectly.

Not flamed, but I'll just point out it'll be useless to you, maybe. But to me it'll be great, and I can't wait to get one. I use a lot of iOS programs that would benefit from a larger screen without needing OSX. I use iDraw, CoachMe Football, Notability, 3d Virtual Tabletop, and Pages, just to name a few.

As a iPad 3 owner i'd defintiely wait for the following generation. The A8X sounds too close to the A5X just so it could push more pixels and i'm not too confident that Jony Ive's rendition of iOS will be blazing fast on an A8X.
