Other than Promotion, LTPO displays, and soft board batteries, are there any major (or minor) enhancements that have been already rumored to next year’s or the following year’s iPhone? For instance, have mini LED or micro LED displays been reunited for the iPhone? I’m trying to plan out how long I’ll hold onto my 11 Pro before upgrading, and understand which of the rumored features I may want to hold out for.

Hardware wise, the standard iPhone/Mini have more going for them for 2021, with some/all of the current Pro hardware specs trickling down.

The thing is iPhone hardware is so refined, that software may bring the biggest improvements & you can’t really differentiate Pro/Non-Pro when adding software features. Maybe 120Hz (although that’s reliant on hardware also).

So overall, the iPhone 13 6.1” may be the best iPhone we’ve seen in a while, with the best hardware-equipped model (Pro camera, bigger battery etc.), + IOS features we’ve been expecting for years (like split screen multi tasking etc.).

Apple is really really good at limiting software features to Pro devices or to new phones when older phones are perfectly capable of handling. The most recent example: Apple ProRaw.
You may have got me with ProRaw. I’m not too sure on it, but is it attributed to the improved camera system in the Pro models, & hence wouldn’t it be considered a benefit due to hardware?

The only difference in the systems is the Lidar and telephoto which do not play a role at all with the feature. 3rd party camera apps have had RAW picture taking and processing for years.

Given that ProRaw photo file size is HUGE (contains a lot of information needed for post-editing)...it could be that the processing for each ProRaw photo requires more RAM.

I think that 12 Pro Max main camera sensor is here to stay for another generation or two or three. Anything bigger would require major re-design...the camera bump of 12 PM is already ginormous.

Of course, software will be better due to A15...maybe Deep Fusion and Night Mode processing will be instantaneous.

I think that Apple will focus on improving Telephoto lens and ultra-wide lens. Right now, there is a HUGE gap in image quality b/w main sensor and these two “accessory” lenses. Personally, i only use Telephoto for Portraits (in good lighting). That’s about it. I use UW lens for landscape in excellent lighting. (The addition of Deep Fusion to UW lens is much appreciated by me.)

If Apple can make 2.5x telephoto lens have a bigger sensor AND go back to f/2.0 (f/1.8?), then that would be gravy! No reason not to...given that 12 PM telephoto & UW lenses have increased in size (for no benefit other than aesthetics) just to match the main sensor. The UW lens sensor can be bigger too. I hear about f/1.8 lens for UW next year...i have my doubts that it would be this wide aperture...my guess is either f/2.2 or f/2.0 at most. My guess is slightly bigger UW sensor and f/2.2.

I doubt that we will see periscope...because that would require again major surgery to the current design.

Was there an expected timing on Touch ID under the display - 2021 or 2022? As I’m writing this I recall another expected “feature” is a portless phone but I thought I read that would start on the larger Max model.

Think portless will be in max mode only..kuo and Bloomberg reckoned 2021 for Touch ID so will see

Dear Apple, we all want TouchID back. But that doesn't mean you should scrap FaceID, because it's cool but not as sweet as both working together in harmony.

If only the Mini had TouchID... I would be holding it right now.

Thanks! So far, I’m thinking I’d want to wait until an LTPO/Promotion display and under display Touch ID launched before pulling the trigger. Hopefully the LTPO and Promotion features launch together (I think they have to?). I can live without the portless phone reaching the smaller Pro model. I don’t see any major consumer benefit there.

Yeah LTPO pro motion is basically guaranteed for 2021 pro models

The one other features that I’m really holding out for is improvements to Face ID. I really, really hope that launches in 2021.

So if LTPO, Promotion, and under the display Touch ID are expected in 2021, what might the 2022 model include? Perhaps some camera enhancements and maybe the portless design reaches the smaller Pro model in 2022? And then by 2023 we either have a case redesign and/or smaller notch? I wonder if or when mini LED or micro LED may make its way to the iPhone line. Interesting to sketch this out long term.

Periscope lens is said to be on the way in 2022

Under-display ultrasonic TouchID........it has not worked out great for Samsung.......and they have had several years experience with it. No thanks. Slow. Inaccurate at times.

Optical under display, while fast (just like old TouchID), but can be easily fooled with 1st grade school supplies.

Agreed on sensor size unfortunately, I would like to see a larger one, even a 1/1.33“on the main camera. we already heard from Kuo that they will work on the ultra wide for next year. I think we could also see a megapixel and zoom bump. Apple was testing that 64 megapixel Sony IMX686 image sensor in the Max right before production started but decided against it because they couldn’t optimize it in time. It’s also a 1/1.7“ sensor and I’m guessing we might see that in the next Max. They might also be able to work a periscope lens into the Max to get a 10x zoom. We shall see.

They do that every year, with each new phones comes new camera software features that aren't available in the previous generations.

Under-screen Touch ID and no port next year. Folding iPhone in 2022.

Sorry, I don’t buy that. If the regular 12 has enough RAM to record Dolby Vision HDR recording at 30 FPS, it should breeze through AppleRaw.

Yet, you can’t do DV HDR at 60 fps......so, 30 FPS DV HDR maybe at the very limit of 4GB RAM? RAW photo size is bigger than any one frame of DV HDR.

They’ll look like the 12 models but the 13 Pro models will have no ports, MagSafe smart connector, 8GB ram, new dark colour replacing blue or graphite and 120hz

13 and 13 mini will come with 90hz, 6GB ram and new colours

All models will have AOD, improved cameras, much improved battery, brighter screens and reverse wireless charging.

Possible slim chance of Touch ID in the screen but seems too much all at once with the new displays.
