So, exactly what would I need to get/do to get this to work in my '09 2.66 Quad? Does $319 SSD really make that much of a difference from a regular HD?
Thanks.
Yes, it is probably the biggest and best upgrade you can make in any computer today. Hard drives has been the slowest bottleneck for any PCs and Macs for the past decade. Now with SSDs getting better at probably Moore's Law rate, the slowest bottleneck will be the SATA interface itself.
10.6 is rumored to be out by the summer. I doubt this, I think it will be out in around september/october. This isnt that long of a wait, and I dont need RAID0 in SSD form just yet, I dont feel like going through all the installation procedures twice (now when I buy two SSDs and again when I install a fresh copy of 10.6).
6.0 Gb/s SATA is already appearing in products.![]()

Sounds good.I can only hope this is true... It would be great to be rewarded for my procrastination in ordering a pair.![]()
Now if we can just get drives that can produce that level of throughput...Yeah! I saw that! Great new standard aye?!!
Atto Technology has a few products, such as the EXPRESSSAS H608. Others in the family, so look at the other PCIe 2.0 models. So far, they're HBA only, but the RAID models will follow......What products? i expect to see first product by fall if not early 2010.

I presume they're after a head start in terms of SSD's for an enterprise environment, as mechanical drives can't come close to that level of throughput. SSD's can't either. Yet.But should be able to exceed the current 3.0 Gb/s in the not too distant future.

As I said, they're early with the release of a 6.0Gb/s HBA.That's about it, a 500$ host adaptor cards that has no SSDs with SATA 6gbps connection.
I agree that it will be some time yet before 6.0Gb/s ports make an appearance in systems. No pressing motivation due to the lack of drives.Vertex II SSDs are expected to arrive with SATA 6Gbps interface but nobody knows when it'll arrive, last check shows end of may. Either way, I still don't expect to see any laptops nor pc to come with SATA 6Gbps by standard til Fall/Winter.
UuupsWhatever price drop there was, NewEgg just upped the price of the 160GB drive by $110, back to its previous price![]()
UuupsBut a mistake I guess / hope
They did the same with the price of the 80GB version...
Yikes... 80GB has gone back to $363 too!

These things are so addictive.
First I got one..... then I just had to get another for raid0. Now I'm already thinking of getting two more. Not now at current prices but somewhere down the road when the price for one is 200 euros or less.
Yes, I have one in the 1st generation MacBook Pro (Core Duo model).
Although it can be a bit tricky to get inside the MacBook Pro if you don't have the right tools.
Here is a harddisk replacement guite for the MacBook Pro (1st generation) that should be quite helpful.
Thanks for the tip! Would you happen to know that can a 7.0 mm thick drive be fitted securely in the MBP? I noticed that the correct replacement drives are 9.5 mm thick.
