With numerous reports in recent weeks of new hardware releases from Apple and low stocks of a number of current-generation models, Apple watchers have been waiting on edge for new products to make their appearance. Attention has naturally focused on Tuesdays, a frequent day of the week for Apple to release new products, so speculation has been on the increase again today.

Earlier today, Newsweek's Dan Lyons issued a teaser post on his "Fake Steve Jobs" blog claiming that Apple is planning a product release tomorrow and poking fun at Daring Fireball's John Gruber, who has occasionally had accurate inside information just prior to product announcements.
Can't tell you what, obviously. But there's something brewing. Gruber doesn't know about it, but the people we care about are being briefed in advance. Stay close to your Mac or iPhone, and have your credit card ready.
Gruber later responded with a brief post carrying a very lengthy headline listing a multitude of new products possibly on the table for release tomorrow:

- Redesigned plastic MacBooks
- Redesigned "impressive" iMacs
- Mac mini updates, including one based on Mac OS X Server
- Multi-touch "Magic Mouse"
- A multi-touch "trackpad gadget" for desktop Macs

MacRumors has similarly heard whispers over the past few days of new iMacs, MacBooks, and possibly Mac minis scheduled for release tomorrow, but we have been unable to confirm any of the reports.

That would be cool... New iMacs we are all waiting for!

I guess if it really does happen tomorrow, we can expect stock to go up even higher :)

As I said in another thread, Apple has been pretty predictable lately, but with all of these rumored products it seems odd that they would release all of this without an event.

Also, with Jobs saying "We have a great holiday lineup..." it seems they are set already.

I really don't know what to think.

Should Apple release a Clarksfield based iMac tomorrow, I likely will upgrade my 2007 version. I really want a black backlit keyboard w/ a multi-touch pad or mouse though.

I don't know... usually we hear more solid rumors ahead of the release of new products. But nothing we've heard has been particularly consistent. I'd say there's a 30% chance of new products tomorrow.

I'm ready to see a MacBook refresh, hopefully it's something I'll buy. A Mac mini server sounds like just the thing I'm looking for to compliment my :apple:TV and multiple iTunes installations. We'll see what tomorrow brings, or the next week, or the week after that. My money can wait.

I agree with you. But these latest rumors with Gruber and Fake Steve give me more hope!

I'm guessing the multitouch pad will basically be a large version of the MBP trackpad? It should be wireless :)

If there is a multi-touch trackpad I hope it's BT and works with my Mini HTPC. BUT I'd love to see a matte option on the 13".

Is it common for apple not to have an event from something such has this?

Precisely. It would be better press and help sales if they had an event... where's the event? Either they release SOME stuff which is merely updating, or the stuff won't be released for a while.

This rumor sounds exactly like the worst of rumors. An event isn't dictated to precede a release, but it is more likely to happen before something very interesting being released.

I'm in the market for a new laptop, and I've got my fingers crossed to see what might be in store for the MacBook.

I would love to get a MBP - but in my family, laptops do not seem to live long. Lots of accidental breakages. If AppleCare would cover accidental damage (or offer a plan for one) I would feel a lot more comfortable buying a higher end machine... For now it looks like it might be a MacBook or, *gasp* - maybe an HP...

A mac mini w/ OS X Server would be a nice little toy. Makes me glad I didn't press the button on one of those HP servers Newegg had on sale last week.

So, the new trackpad replaces the mouse. (Apple kills the mouse! Woohoo!)

After all, a large touchpad would work, at least for me, better than using this mouse on a slide out desk shelf. Bring it, please :)

The MacBook is in desperate need of a redesign.

And I really want multi-touch capabilities for Mac desktops.

I'd like to believe this.. but...

If there are redesigns then any new releases would be accompanied by an Apple event. SJ likes to spread his RDF far and wide in these situations.

I'd get the Mighty Mouse replacement if it were bluetooth and multi-touch in an instant.
