I'm pretty new at this. I created an app in Automator that remedies the appended extension problem between Office 2008 and Safari 3.0. The problem is that whenever you download a .doc or .xls, Safari appends .dot or .xla.

Is there a way that the Automator app can run after Safari downloads a file into the Downloads folder? I've been trying to figure it out, but I can't do it. Maybe AppleScript?

If you download to a specific folder, like ~/Download/ you may try to put action folder script onto that folder to solve the problem. The script may change or remove the bad extension directly.

Action folder, you need to right click on the specific folder, in the more section, you will see a few option for it. You will have to enabled it, then connect a script to the folder. You may see more info there:

Oh my gosh dude, you rule! I'm quite an advanced user of and very knowledgeable about OS X, but I never knew about Folder Actions! I can already think of a few instance where this feature will come in very handy.
