Hi,

Am wanting to get the various VMs that are clogging up my internal drive and put them on an external. I have a mid 2011 iMac and am wondering if FireWire would be acceptable speed wise. My VMs are windows 7 and soon to be Windows 8. I don't run heavy apps on them, mostly web browsers and some accounting software.

Thunderbolt is still too pricey so hopefully usb2 or FireWire will be ok.

Thanks.

It will run fine.
Keep in mind, FW800 is significantly faster than USB2, so get that if you can. USB2 will work, but you'll probably experience sluggish performance opening apps and booting.

Thanks. I'll look into a FireWire enclosure.

I have 16gb ram so I will dedicate a bit more to the vm which hopefully will help.
